Adriana Lima Takes Her Final Bow
It was an emotional night for Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima, who has modeled for the brand for two decades. Right before the annual Victoria’s Secret show was set to take place, Lima took to Instagram to announce her retirement through this rather cryptic post. She walked out during the show’s finale – one last time – with tears in her eyes, gesturing in gratitude at the audience.
Idris Elba Wins Obvious Award
Back in 2017, People magazine named country music singer Blake Shelton the “Sexiest Man Alive” and the internet collectively responded, “Wait, isn’t Idris Elba still alive?” No, seriously, that’s what happened – even Matthew McConaughey, who won the award in 2005, pitched his pal Elba to the press as a contender. Pyer Moss Wins CFDA Award
We could fill volumes with tales of how the fashion industry has mishandled sensitive issues like race and gender for decades now, but it’s finally starting to get things right. Case in point: the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) handed its most prestigious award for emerging designers to Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss, who first broke into the industry with a T-shirt that listed the names of all the people of color who had been murdered by the police. The label’s entire identity is founded on intersectionality and social justice, and it is encouraging to see its message rewarded with the CFDA’s coveted Fashion Fund award, which gives $400,000 as a prize to its recipients to go forth and conquer – and that is exactly what we expect Jean-Raymond to do.
