Kanye West Visits President Trump at the White House

Kanye West visited President Donald Trump last week in a televised press conference in which the musical artist/designer took over the meeting with a 10-minute stream-of-consciousness rant. The rant contained nuggets of politically-oriented thought, in which he briefly jumped from topics like prison reform and inner-city Chicago violence to how high his I.Q. is and how the #MAGA hat made him feel like a “superhero”. The disjointed speech received swift and severe backlash online from fans, collaborators, and media personalities alike – including harsh criticism from his longtime friend T.I., who ended a lengthy Instagram post saying, “This is the most repulsive, disgraceful, embarrassing act of desperation & auctioning off of one’s soul to gain power I’ve ever seen.”

West, who has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, has been public about his mental health issues in the past, but during the White House meeting he insisted that he had been misdiagnosed and that his erratic behavior was simply a result of sleep deprivation. You can read a full transcript of West’s speech here.

Selena Gomez Seeks Treatment for Mental Health

Pop star and actress, Selena Gomez, who received a life-saving kidney transplant in 2017 due to her Lupus diagnosis, was hospitalized last week because her white blood cell count was alarmingly low. Gomez spiraled when the hospital wouldn’t allow her to leave, and her mounting health concerns drove her to an emotional breakdown, as reported by Entertainment Tonight. Gomez is now at an East Coast psychiatric facility undergoing dialectical behavioral therapy for her mental-health concerns. She is currently on a break from social media, but that didn’t stop fans from flooding her Instagram account with well wishes and messages of concern.

Taylor Swift Finally Gets Political

American singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift, who lives in Nashville, TN, has been exceptionally quiet about her political beliefs throughout the duration of her career. Last week, Swift finally broke her silence and came forward in support of Tennessee’s Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives, urging her supporters to do independent research on the platforms of their chosen candidates and the issues.

She also pleaded with her 112 million Instagram fans to register to vote. According to Vote.org, a mere 24 hours after her post, 65,000 people had registered to vote, and 48 hours later the number spiked to 240,000 people. Forbes Magazine pointed out, “For context, 190,178 voters registered in the month of September, and 56,669 registered in the month of August.” The Taylor Swift effect is real.

I’m writing this post about the upcoming midterm elections on November 6th, in which I’ll be voting in the state of Tennessee. In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent. I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives. Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway. So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. October 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the state of TN. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting! 🗳😃🌈

Brandon Truaxe Is Ousted as CEO of Deciem

Deciem, the company behind the wildly popular and ultra-affordable skincare brand, The Ordinary, has experienced much difficulty with its troubled CEO, Brandon Truaxe, over the past year. Truaxe has frequently used Instagram to talk directly to the consumer about the ingredients in his products, but has also used the platform to attack critics and reveal private company information.

Last week, the drama at Deciem continued when Truaxe threatened to shut down his company, citing “major criminal activity” in a bizarre Instagram video. Estée Lauder, a minority stakeholder in Deciem, filed an injunction against Truaxe, and as of Friday, the judge ruled in favour of Estée Lauder, removing Brandon from his post as CEO and the company board. He has been replaced by Nicola Kilner as interim CEO. In the words of one frustrated fan on Instagram, “Can I just buy my retinol in peace please?”

Tiffany & Co. Announces New ‘Paper Flowers’ Collection

Tiffany & Co. announces ‘Paper Flowers’, the first jewelry collection by chief artistic officer Reed Krakoff, which was inspired by the idea of delicate flower petals cut from paper and pinned together. The featherweight floral motif was arranged in dazzling combinations of tanzanite, white diamonds, and yellow diamonds, and featured on a range of bib necklaces, earrings, cocktail rings, and even tiaras. “‘Paper Flowers’ is about stripping away all of the rules associated with fine jewelry,” said Krakoff. “Luxury shouldn’t always mean formality, so we used precious stones and the finest materials, but in a way that you can live with every day.” Tiffany & Co.’s exquisite ‘Paper Flowers’ collection is now available in select stores and on Tiffany.com.

Max Mara Unveils Middle East Exclusive Collection

To celebrate its new flagship store at The Dubai Mall’s new Fashion Avenue annex, luxury Italian brand Max Mara has created an exclusive, limited-edition capsule collection specifically for the Middle East shopper. Hijab-wearing model, Halima Aden, stars as the face of the exclusive collection.

The capsule collection features the MaxMaragram, an archival pattern inspired by the brand’s original logo from the 1950s, and includes double-breasted pure camel wool coats, pencil skirts, classic trousers, silk head scarves, and more. The creative mind behind Max Mara, Ian Griffiths, shared his thoughts on the collection, saying, “It’s a look that’s sharp, smart and savvy.
