If American daytime television is any indication, the world is an utter mess at the moment. Our hopes for Donald Trump’s impeachment have officially been dashed. The name Nia Wilson is slowly escaping our memories. And Brett Kavanaugh has been sworn in as a U.S. Supreme Court justice – despite multiple allegations of sexual misconduct – kicking off conversations about class, gender, race, and privilege on an international scale. And through it all, one woman is singlehandedly reminding us that now, more than ever, it’s time to wake up and get woke: Charlotte York.

Long remembered as the prissy, polite, and eternally naive one, this Sex and the City character has had a serious awakening. Today, the “Park Avenue Pollyanna” is calling out the (countless) politically incorrect statements uttered by those around her, courtesy of the #wokecharlotte hashtag created by Lauren Garroni and Chelsea Fairless of @everyoutfitonsatc fame. We gushed over this brilliant Instagram account back in the day, when it set out to document every single outfit on the show, from Samantha’s take-no-prisoners pantsuits to Carrie’s sometimes questionable life choices. And in a case of going from strength to strength, it is now prompting enlightened memes worldwide.

Currently, there are just over 1,200 Instagram posts under this hashtag, but we imagine it’s only a matter of time until it dominates our feeds – especially given today’s sordid state of affairs. And while many – erm, most – of the posts are NSFW, we’ve put together a handful of safe ones to get you onboard the #wokecharlotte bandwagon.

• woke charlotte saying it all for me really. this is terrifying. truly and utterly terrifying and just shows how fucked up the system is in america that someone who has been accused of sexual assault has been allowed a place in the supreme judicial court of america. it’s terrifying that people who are so high up in america’s congress, court of law and have even ran for governor before have such vile beliefs on rape and assault against others. it’s showing that america is becoming an unsafe place to be because white supremacy is taking over and anything these men and women are saying is being believed and accepted with no challenge because of who they are. it’s fucked. i pray to the lord above anyone who has faced any sort of assault or been belittled by anyone in power gets their justice one day. because you matter and need to be heard. 🙏🏼 #MeToo #wokecharlotte
