Farfetch Goes Public
When we interviewed José Neves of Farfetch in March 2017, there was a rumor going around that the wildly successful e-commerce platform was going public. Over a year later, the rumor has become a reality as Farfetch announced its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange last week, under the filing “FTCH”. With an astonishing growth rate of 43.6% last year, Farfetch is poised to skyrocket its successes even further by way of public offering. In a statement to the press, Neves said, “The size of the opportunity is far larger than what Farfetch is today. The luxury industry has been consistently growing at a 6 percent compound rate for the past 20 years, which means – if we assume the same pace of growth – in the next 10 years, it could reach well over $450 billion.” Guess it’s time to start figuring out how to invest in the stock market!
Hilary Swank Ties the Knot
Actor and producer Hilary Swank surprised the world by getting hitched over the weekend to entrepreneur Philip Schneider. After the two met on a blind date, fell for each other quickly, and got engaged after a year and a half of dating, they enjoyed a fairytale wedding at Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, California. For her special day, the bride wore a stunning custom made Elie Saab Couture wedding dress, made from 25 meters of Chantilly lace, as well as a vast amount of silk chiffon and organza silk.
Kendall Jenner Comes Under Fire for Modeling Comments
In a recent interview with Love Magazine, model and reality show star, Kendall Jenner, drew heat for comments she made about her career. “Since the beginning, we’ve been super selective about what shows I would do,” she revealed. “I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season or whatever the f*** those girls do. More power to ’em. But I had a million jobs, not only catwalks but everything else,” she said. “The whole combination was very overwhelming, and I started to freak out a little bit and needed to take a step back.”
Well, “those girls who would do like 30 shows a season” took issue with Jenner’s comments, and responded with their own perspectives. Former Victoria’s Secret model, Jac Jacaciak, said, “This makes me so angry… so disrespectful to literally 99% of people in the industry ― yes they had to work their way up. Please get in touch with the real world!” Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, Vita Sidorkina-Morabito chimed in, saying, “Maybe ‘those girls’ need to pay their bills — that’s why they’re doing 30 shows? No words.” Other models revealed that the number of shows they walk in each season is closer to 70 or 80, and pointed out that they do so in order to earn money and build careers – a concern that someone of Jenner’s status and privilege has never had to do. Jenner has since responded to the outrage by claiming her words were taken out of context and twisted to be used against her.
The French Tennis Federation Bans Serena Williams' Catsuit
After a harrowing birth experience in which she nearly lost her life, tennis star Serena Williams has been recovering remarkably well. However, the difficulties she experienced with continuous blood clots were a side effect of her pregnancy, so Williams began wearing a cool “Black Panther-esque” catsuit to assist blood circulation and prevent clotting. However, the French Tennis Federation has taken issue with Williams’ attire, and has announced new rules regarding player uniforms for the 2019 French Open, which would prevent catsuits from being worn on the court. Although they couched the language of the announcement in practical terms, comments by the President of the Federation, Bernard Giudicelli, smacked of body-shaming, especially when he deemed her attire “inappropriate”.
