Instagram Launches IGTV
What started as a simple photo-sharing app in 2010 has evolved into one of the world’s foremost content machines. Instagram now has over a billion monthly users, and as soon as it crossed that rare threshold, it launched IGTV, which allows content creators to upload hour-long videos. Tech experts are saying this could dethrone YouTube as the premiere video sharing platform, but IGTV has yet to provide users with a means to monetize their content the same way YouTube has — which means the throne may still be a long way away.
Jennifer Lawrence is the New Face of Dior’s New Women’s Fragrance Launch
While there are very few details available about Dior’s new perfume launch, we do know one important fact: Jennifer Lawrence is the new face of the fragrance. The last time Dior released a major women’s fragrance pillar was in 1999 for J’adore, so we can only guess how big the impending launch will be. Watch this space for further developments.
Burger King Under Fire for World Cup Pregnancy Gaffe
Who’s greenlighting marketing projects at Burger King these days? We have to ask because the Russian Burger King social media account recently ran an extremely distasteful ad, offering cash money and free Whoppers to women who got impregnated by football players during the World Cup. Not only does this despicable suggestion encourage unsafe practices, but it also erases female independence, treating women as vessels for birthing future football players. Burger King has since laughed off the promotion as a stunt and issued a brief apology.
Virgil Abloh Stuns With Emotional First Louis Vuitton Menswear Show
The eyes of the fashion world were on Virgil Abloh last Thursday for his debut at Louis Vuitton menswear, and the moment did not disappoint. After a triumphant and vibrant collection that blended streetwear and high fashion, a chorus of praise and tears rang out from guests on the sidelines who were seated along a rainbow-hued catwalk.
As Abloh, the first black Creative Director at a major luxury house, started walking down the catwalk for the finale, he was overcome with emotion at the outpouring of support from the audience. Spotting Kanye West on the front row – the rapper and Yeezy fashion designer who put Abloh on the map and helped him build his brand from the ground-up – the designer points him out, makes a beeline for him, and grasps him in a powerful hug. Cue the waterworks.
Pete Davidson Publicly Confirms Engagement to Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande’s and Pete Davidson’s whirlwind romance shows no signs of slowing down or cooling off. In fact, within a month of their initial meeting, it was rumored that the two had already become engaged. While there was no official word from either party for awhile, Davidson silenced the speculation by confirming the engagement on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, commenting that the relationship was “lit!”.

Melania Trump Sends a Message With a $40 Zara Jacket
After Republicans in the U.S. openly mocked and belittled President Barack Obama for wearing an ill-fitting tan suit in 2014, the sartorial choices of those in power have been oft-politicized. Which is why it is with shock that the world witnessed First Lady Melania Trump’s bizarre choice of clothing for a visit to a youth detention center along the border of Texas and Mexico housing immigrant children who had been forcibly separated from their parents upon crossing into America.
In a photo that quickly went viral, Trump can be seen boarding a plane wearing a $40 Zara jacket that said, “I don’t really care, do u?” Given her destination and the recent backlash against her husband President Donald Trump’s policy to separate, detain, and prosecute families who cross into the U.S. illegally, it was nothing short of horrifying to witness.
A spokesperson for First Lady Melania Trump declared that there was no “hidden message” in the jacket, which is true given that there is nothing hidden about such an obvious statement of apathy. Meanwhile, President Trump took to Twitter to clarify the meaning, which entirely contradicted the spokeperson’s statement, by claiming the message was directed at the “fake news media”.
