Bottega Veneta Parts Ways with Tomas Maier
After 17 years at the helm of Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta, Tomas Maier is leaving his position. “It’s largely due to Tomas’s high-level creative demands that Bottega Veneta became the House it is today. He put it back on the luxury scene and made it an undisputed reference. With his creative vision, he magnificently showcased the expertise of the House’s artisans. I am deeply grateful to him and I personally thank him for the work he accomplished, and for the exceptional success he helped to achieve,” stated François-Henri Pinault, the CEO of Bottega Veneta’s parent company, Kering.
Maier will be replaced by 32-year-old designer, Daniel Lee, who was most recently Director of Ready-to-Wear Design at Céline. Pinalt praised Lee, saying, “His work is characterized by great rigor, a mastery of studio expertise, a true passion for materials and an energy that I cannot wait to see take shape at Bottega Veneta.” Bottega Veneta has yet to release information about Lee’s first collection for the brand, which could be as soon as September for the Spring/Summer 2019 season.
Dries Van Noten Sells Majority Stake to Puig
One of the last remaining independent fashion houses, Dries Van Noten, has succumbed to the pressures of the industry by accepting majority stake ownership by Spanish luxury group, Puig. Van Noten will remain on as Chief Creative Officer and Chairman of the Board, and will also retain a “significant” minority share in the company. What makes this an unusual partnership is Puig’s primary background in fragrance and beauty, while Dries Van Noten is one of the few brands on earth that does most of its sales in ready-to-wear. Puig hopes to create new fragrance and beauty categories at Dries Van Noten, relying on the brand’s stellar reputation to boost sales.
L’Oreal Partners with Isabel Marant for a Cosmetics Collection
Isabel Marant is bringing her Parisienne je ne sais quoi and bohemian attitude to a new collaboration with L’Oreal Paris. The designer and the beauty giant have agreed to release a makeup collection centered on more natural-looking products, with a little bit of French glam thrown in for good measure. In a statement to the press, Marant shared, “I’ve always interpreted fashion’s ready-to-wear literally, and I couldn’t be more thrilled at this chance to do that in makeup with an on-the-go collection with L’Oréal Paris. It has been a dream to get right inside makeup innovation and to offer this collection of day-into-night, natural-to-smoking makeup essentials I have always wanted.”
Kate Upton Wins Legal Battle Against Guess Inc. CEO, Paul Marciano
Another victory for the #MeToo movement has been won. Earlier this year, model Kate Upton came forward and confessed the sexual harassment she received at the hands of Guess Inc. head, Paul Marciano. Marciano denied the charges, but many other women came forward to corroborate Upton’s story with their own harrowing tales of inappropriate treatment perpetrated by Marciano. This week, Marciano has been ordered to pay $500,000 in settlements to the victims and will be removed from his role as executive chairman of the fashion company.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Are (Maybe) Engaged
Normally, the romantic entanglements of celebrities proceed as they do for the rest of us, but occasionally a whirlwind relationship comes along that manages to snag the attention of people who otherwise wouldn’t give it a second thought. Pop star Ariana Grande and Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson fell swiftly head-over-heels in love after both recently breaking up with their respective significant others.
Declaring their feelings loudly via social media, the two had been dating less than a month when a rumor caught fire this week that they were already engaged. Although Grande has been spotted wearing a $100,000 diamond ring, and the two have both stoked the rumor with sly social media posts suggesting the idea, neither have confirmed the engagement officially. It could all be a big hoax perpetrated against a nosy media force, or it could be the case of two crazy kids rushing into love. Stranger things have happened.
