If you thought this photo was snapped somewhere exotic like the Maldives, think again – these bright blue waters and powdery soft sands can be found right here in the heart of Dubai.
We know that not everyone can hop on a plane for the Eid holiday ahead, but a staycay with a side of old-world luxury? Hardly a meagre consolation prize. Enter: Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf, a luxury boutique hotel known for its intimate Arabian-inspired summerhouses, complete with majlis-style lounges. We decided to have a look for ourselves, and found five aspects that we loved.
The Great Escape
Nestled amongst tranquil, lush green gardens and winding waterways, you’ll find the luxury Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf summerhouses — part of the Jumeirah Al Qasr hotel. As soon as you jump in your buggy and get whisked through the grounds you’re instantly transported far, far away from the buzz and buildings of Dubai.
It’s so peaceful you could hear a pin drop, although the soothing sound of birdsong and of the sea linger on the breeze (you’re a hop and a skip away from the property’s stunning beach, the longest private one in town). There’s one word to sum this place up: beautiful.
Each elegant summerhouse is its own entity, with a beautiful central courtyard reminiscent of the royal riads in Marrakech – complete with cool, quirky touches like pretty walled plates, colored glass lanterns, large clay pots, and intricately tiled water features. Top tip? Leave some time for Instagramming. Each villa is home to up to 11 guest rooms, which enjoy access to the courtyard and to the private pools hidden amongst the greenery – the perfect spot to have a dip or cool off from the summer sun.
Once inside your room, you’ll find it very hard to leave. Light, bright, and incredibly spacious, the bathroom alone is bigger than most Dubai’s apartments, complete with a huge standalone tub and walk-in shower. A natural color palette of creams, light woods, and soft blue is brought to life with understated Arabian touches, from the hanging lantern lights to mosaic floors and hanging artwork. Private terraces or gardens overlook the resort’s breathtaking greenery and abra waterways, providing the perfect piece of private paradise.
Not only will you be whisked through the hotel’s main reception straight to check-in at your villa, but you’ll also be greeted by your very own personal butler, who’s there to help with everything. Literally. Need a restaurant booked or a spa treatment changed? He’s your guy. He’s also particularly helpful if you don’t have a clue where to start when picking your restaurant (more on that in a moment).
As a guest of the Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf villas, you’re also treated to complimentary nightly sundowners and snacks in the villa’s courtyard or Majlis-inspired living room, where you can sip on delicious beverages before dinner. The staff is so attentive that they’ll remember your tipple of choice and all your preferences, really tailoring your stay to you and your needs.
Take Your Pick
Speaking of dinner, the food choices here are endless, as you have access to the over 50 – yes, 50 – restaurants and bars at the resort. For the best burgers and “freakshakes” the size of your head, head to Black Tap. Or if a plate of homemade pasta is what you’re craving, Il Borro serves up the best of Italy.
The most succulent steaks, meanwhile, are on offer at The Hide, while Pai Thai is still the definitive place for Asian cuisine in an upscale setting. Whatever you’re craving, you’ll find the perfect dining destination here. Perhaps a short staycation isn’t the best idea…
Out and About
Spend your stay sunning it up on a private stretch of beach, being pampered at Talise Spa, enjoying unlimited access to Wild Wadi waterpark, devouring a delicious ice lolly or two at Summersalt beach club (a Savoir Flair favorite), or even playing a game of tennis. With access to all the facilities within Madinat Jumeirah, you’ll never be bored.
