Dapper Dan x Gucci is (Finally) Here
After Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, was accused of plagiarizing designs by Dapper Dan, he made things right by supporting the opening of a couture atelier in Harlem run by the famous couturier himself. Dan, who was a pioneering designer in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s known for over-the-top custom designs favored by hip-hop artists, was shunned by the fashion industry and relegated to the history books.
However, Gucci’s investment and partnership with Dan has finally come to fruition, with the release of a stunning Spring/Summer 2018 collection that features sequined logo jackets, louche trackpants, and other looks that bear the hallmarks of both Dan’s iconic work and Gucci’s heritage branding.
