Amal and George Clooney Take in a Refugee

There are celebrities who pay lip service to progressive ideas – and others who actually put their money where their mouth is. Amal and George Clooney, however, went a step beyond by inviting a Yazidi refugee into their home. In a rare joint interview with David Letterman, the Clooneys opened up about their incredible journey of getting to know Hazim Avdal, whom Amal originally met when representing a group of Yazidis who had been victims of systematic ISIS genocide. Avdal now lives in the couple’s Augusta, Kentucky home and attends the University of Chicago.

Caroline Herrera to Step Down from Her Namesake Brand

Carolina Herrera has led her namesake fashion house for 37 years, but following the finale of her presentation at New York Fashion Week on Monday evening, she will announce her partial retirement. While the designer will be stepping down from her empire’s day-to-day operations, she will remain on as its global ambassador. Fashion whiz kid Wes Gordon will take over as Creative Director.

Kylie Jenner Gives Birth to Stormi Webster

After nine tortured months of anticipation and speculation, fans of the Jenner-Kardashian industrial complex finally have the answers they were seeking. In news that practically upstaged Sunday night’s Super Bowl, Kylie Jenner dropped major news via Instagram: she had given birth to a baby girl. In her signature over-the-top style, the reality star’s revelation came by way of a short film that documented her pregnancy and birth in sweet, sentimental fashion. A day later, she announced that the name of the baby – who shares a last name with her father Jacques ‘Travis Scott’ Webster  is Stormi Webster.

Macy’s Launches Modest Line, Verona

Lots of brands are investing in the modest-fashion movement, but Macy’s marks the first department store to install a permanent modest fashion line. Macy’s inaugural Verona collection launches worldwide on February 15th, and includes separates for both Muslim and non-Muslim women as well as a selection of stylish hijabs. This major step toward inclusivity is long overdue, if you ask us.

Winter Olympics Kick Off in Pyeongchang, South Korea

With skyrocketing tensions between the United States and North Korea creating a fractious environment at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the event is set to snag record ratings as both countries compete against each other. The opening ceremony kicked off with a strong message of “peace through movement” with a colorful and heartwarming display that celebrated Korean culture.
