Jonathan Saunders Resigns from DVF
In the week’s most disappointing news, Jonathan Saunders has opted to step down from the helm of Diane Von Furstenberg, where he has been Creative Director for over a year. Rarely has an incoming designer been so well matched to his position, so it’s with a sense of dismay that we watch him go.
Saunders was a wonderful fit at DVF, capable of infusing his own creative DNA seamlessly with that of the established brand. The decision came quickly after designer Diane Von Furstenberg decided to sell a majority stake of her company to investment banking firm Michel Dyens & Co. According to Business of Fashion, internal friction between Saunders and Von Furstenberg also contributed to his departure.
Mario Batali Faces Sexual Harassment Allegations
Celebrity chef Mario Batali has been fired from ABC’s The Chew and forced to resign from his restaurant empire following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct detailed in investigations by The New York Times and Eater. Inexplicably, after the allegations came to light, Batali issued an apology to fans that curiously included one of his holiday dessert recipes.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Set a Date
Following the news of their engagement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially set a date. The much-anticipated royal wedding will take place on May 19th, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Although this location is less famous than Westminster Abbey, where Prince William and Kate Middleton were wed, it is no less important to the Prince’s family history.
Not only is it the final resting place of the Queen Mother – with whom Prince Harry was very close – but is also the site of many royal weddings, including the 2005 wedding of Prince Charles to Camilla Rosemary Shand, Duchess of Cornwall.
Female Attendees Agree to Wear All-Black to the Golden Globes
The 2018 Golden Globe Awards will witness a unified display on the red carpet; women who are attending the event have agreed to wear all-black ensembles in order to protest the sexual harassment and mistreatment of women in Hollywood – and beyond. This year brought to light dozens of allegations against powerful men in the film industry, from Harvey Weinstein and Brett Ratner to Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Spacey.
Deliveroo to Test Camel Delivery
In more light-hearted news, popular food delivery service Deliveroo has decided to offer a new service to those in remote places, like the desert. The company recently tested a “camel delivery service”, which reaches locations that a motorbike simply cannot. We were assured that no camels were harmed during the delivery process. If the concept proves to be in demand, Deliveroo will roll out the service officially in 2018.
