Use the term “Christmas lunch” during the Word Association game, and you’re bound to hear the following: turkey, gravy, roast potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mince pies, and pudding. But what if you’re ready to stray from culinary tradition? The festive season in a diverse city like Dubai means no rules apply, so you can dine in the desert, feast on street food from around the globe, and even swap brussels sprouts for gingerbread waffles. Here, Savoir Flair rounds up five unique offerings to get you started.

Burger & Lobster

Because Christmas Burgers Sound Genius

“Christmas in a bun” sounds equal parts efficient and delicious, so we’re starting here. Starting Christmas Eve, Burger & Lobster will be serving a very special ‘Christmas Burger’ made up of seasonal favorites – a succulent turkey patty topped with sage stuffing, braised red cabbage, pickled brussels sprouts , and cranberry aioli – all sandwiched inside a brioche bun and served alongside fries, of course. Things wouldn’t be complete without a festive dessert, which will come in the form of a decadent ‘Pumpkin Tres Leches’ with spiced cream. Bonus: this festive offering will stay put until January 2, 2020.

Sonara Camp

Because Christmas in the Desert Sounds Magical

Eco-friendly, a zero-waste policy, and fusion cuisine enjoyed under the stars in the midst of a beautiful desert – everything about Christmas at the recently opened Sonara Camp sounds appealing. The team here has created a special menu for the occasion, which will be accented with entertainment and even a camel ride (if you’re up for a little fun).

Because Christmas Equals Sweet Treats

Breakfast for lunch or dinner? Always a yes, especially if it’s been jazzed up for the holiday season. Throughout the month of December, both branches of family-friendly eatery Eggspectation (The Beach JBR and City Walk) will serve three sinfully delicious dishes that Santa is sure to approve: the signature brioche french toast paired with mixed-berry compote and orange cream cheese frosting, gingerbread waffles topped with cinnamon and a caramelized-apple compote, and hot chocolate pancakes that are stuffed to the brim with Nutella and marshmallows – because turkey at Christmas is so cliché.

Soul Street

Because Christmas Should Be Cosmopolitan

Soul Street is a (buzzing) new addition to Dubai’s culinary scene, and will bring together festive delicacies from India, Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East under one roof. And adding to the merriment? A full-fledged Christmas market, live cooking stations both inside and outside the venue, and live entertainment. This special brunch will be offered on both December 24 and 25.

Nightjar Coffee Roasters

Because Artisanal Coffee Makes Christmas Better

Coffee snobs in Dubai have an alternative venue for their Christmas celebrations this year, courtesy of Nightjar Coffee Roasters. The casual eatery will be serving a set menu consisting of festive favorites with a twist – think: a cranberry-pumpkin salad to start, fried turkey or New Zealand meatballs for the main course, sides like charred broccoli served with Christmas butter, and crème brûlée panettone pudding. Oh, and finishing off this feast will be Christmas games and mulled cascara that has been blended specially for the festive season. Win-win.
