We get it. We can barely keep up with the onslaught of information ourselves. That being said, it’s our mission to keep readers in the know, which is why we’ve combed through it all, distilled it to its essence, and dispensed it into easily digestible tidbits. Want to be the most knowledgeable culture savant in your group of friends? Then check back every Sunday for what you’ve missed in the world of celebrities and fashion.
The Supers Return
One of the best moments of Fashion Month so far occurred this week in Milan at the Versace Spring/Summer 2018 show. Not only did designer Donatella Versace showcase a tremendous archive-revival collection in homage to her late brother Gianni, but she also resurrected one of his most incredible runway moments.
Similar to the finale of his Fall/Winter 1991 show, when four of the “Big Five” supermodels twirled down the runway lip-syncing George Michael’s “Freedom”, the show closer astonished onlookers as Cindy Crawford, Carla Bruni, Helena Christensen, Naomi Campbell, and Claudia Schiffer emerged arm-in-arm with the designer. Wearing sinewy gold dresses that exemplified Versace’s signature aesthetic, the five models were easily the most photographed spectacle at all of Fashion Month so far. It was an amazing tribute to female power and beauty, and we were living for every single glimpse we could find.
Madonna Steps into the Beauty Realm
It seems like every celebrity is launching a beauty line lately, but there are some that spark our interest far more than others. One that definitely caught our attention was the announcement that Madonna was entering the beauty realm with the launch of a skincare line. At nearly 60 years old, the iconic popstar has certainly preserved her looks, so we’re eager to see what type of anti-aging skincare products she has in development. The inaugural collection drops on September 26th at Barney’s New York.
Kaia Has a Big Week
Kaia Gerber, the genetically blessed offspring of Cindy Crawford, followed in her mother’s footsteps this season by entering the world of runway modeling. Her first appearance was at Calvin Klein’s Spring/Summer 2018 show at New York Fashion Week, but it was hardly her last. In fact, we’re willing to bet that we’ll see a lot more of her at Paris. By our count, she has already walked in over a dozen shows, but the significance of her appearances is that she opened and closed several collections – a huge honor for a brand new model.
Clearly, the industry has judged that she has what it takes to carry the mantle of not one, but dozens of designers’ visions. Our personal favorite Kaia moment? When she appeared on the Versace runway wearing the exact same look that her mother wore on the runway almost 20 years ago.
