Firsts at the VMAs
Change was afoot at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. For the first time ever, the “Moon Man” prize was transformed into a “Moon Person” in order to be more gender inclusive. The annual awards ceremony also invited a non-traditional roster of guests, like YouTube stars Liza Koshy, Gigi Gorgeous, and Tonio Skits, all of whom are collectively worth millions of young followers, which is MTV’s target demographic.
In disappointing VMA news, A Seat at the Table by Solange Knowles – one of the most beautiful and socially important albums of the year – was shockingly snubbed, as were Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. They created the proverbial song of the summer “Despacito”, which not only garnered the most YouTube video views in history, but also tied with Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” for the longest running No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Celebrities Pay Tribute to Princess Diana
On the 20th anniversary of the tragic and untimely death of Princess Diana, an outpouring of memorials have flooded social media. Celebrities like Cindy Crawford and Elton John shared their fondest memories of “The People’s Princess” on their social-media accounts, reminiscing about her sartorial savviness and immense kindness towards others.
Serena Williams Gives Birth
Although Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian elected not to know the sex of their child before the birth, the legendary tennis player’s female intuition proved to be right on target. In a recent interview, she said, “Two weeks after we found out [I was pregnant], I played the Australian Open. I told Alexis it has to be a girl because there I was playing in 100-degree weather, and that baby never gave me any trouble. Ride or die. Women are tough that way.” Williams and Ohanian welcomed a baby girl over the long weekend, and celebrity congratulations – including a personal post from Beyoncé herself – started pouring in.
Fenty Beauty Teases Drop
In personal posts on Instagram, Rihanna has been hinting about a forthcoming beauty line called Fenty Beauty, and we’ve been tracking its every mention since. While most of the details have been kept a secret, Rihanna posted a new “ad campaign” featuring model Slick Woods to her Insta account, in which Woods named off some of the beauty line’s shades, including ‘Trophy Wife’ and ‘Chili Mango’. She then teased the drop, relaying its release on September 8th, and proceeded to post close-ups of ‘Ginger Binge’ and ‘Moscow Mule’, which are presumably shades of blush or eye shadow. Wallets at the ready, girls – September 8 is approaching fast.
Fashion Insiders Speculate
The fashion world is awash with buzz over the impending departure of Donatella Versace from her family’s namesake brand, and rumor has it that Off-White’s Virgil Abloh is poised to take over. However, a representative of Abloh claims that there is “no truth” to the matter. However, other names being bandied about for the coveted Creative Director position also include Olivier Rousteing of Balmain and Kim Jones of Louis Vuitton menswear.
