Justin Bieber Cancels Tour

Beliebers around the world have been asking themselves, “What is going on with Justin Bieber?” And for good reason. Shortly on the heels of China banning him due to his bad-boy behavior, the young popstar abruptly cancelled the remaining 14 dates on his tour, citing “unforeseen circumstances” and a need for rest. Curiously, some have pointed out that Bieber may have cancelled the rest of his tour because of faith-based reasons, but he has denied these allegations.

Rihanna Meets Macron

For Rihanna, it’s all “work, work, work, work, work”. This week saw the drop of a new music video for her single “Loyalty” starring Kendrick Lamar, plus she was on the red-carpet circuit promoting her role in the new sci-fi/fantasy film Valerian wearing mesmerizing looks. She also made time to stop by Paris for a meeting with the newly minted President Emmanuel Macron.

The two met in order to discuss global education efforts in partnership with her non-profit organization Global Citizen. RiRi alluded to an important project in development, stating, “We focused on the topic of education from global aspects, and we will make a very big announcement this coming September.”

Kim Kardashian's Surrogate Is Pregnant

Kim Kardashian’s fertility struggles have long been chronicled by the show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Reportedly, she and her husband Kanye West tried for a year before she was able to get pregnant with her second child, Saint, but it turns out the complications were due to a potentially life-threatening condition called placenta accreta.

Although it is currently unclear what causes it, the condition means her placenta embedded itself deep inside the uterine wall, which makes it difficult to remove during birth. Because of its placement, removal can result in extreme hemorrhaging, which threatens the life of the mother. Instead of risking this for her third pregnancy, Kardashian and West chose to involve a surrogate. This week, Kardashian revealed that their surrogate was already three months along, meaning baby Kardashian-West number three is due in January 2018.

Phelps vs. Shark Gets Backlash

Shark Week, the Discovery Channel’s annual event, has been a popular program since its debut in 1988 and, every year, it tries harder and harder to outdo the extreme visuals of the previous year. For 2017’s Shark Week extravaganza, the channel hyped an almost-too-preposterous-to-be-true event: Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps was going to race a shark. The show was billed as a real-life match-up, but it turns out the Discovery Channel pulled a fast one (no pun intended) on viewers.

Phelps apparently only raced a computer-generated shark – and the Internet was not having it. The backlash was both hilarious and blistering as people took to social media to complain about the Discovery Channel’s bait-and-switch tactics. However, it seems to have worked, because the faux race broke rating records for the show, making it Shark Week’s highest-ever watched special.

Angelia Jolie Reveals Bell's Palsy Diagnosis

In 2013, Angelina Jolie found out that she had tested positive for the BRCA1 gene, which put her at an incredibly high risk for breast and ovarian cancer – the latter caused her mother’s death at the age of 56. As a result, Jolie elected for a double mastectomy and later had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as well. This week, she revealed that she had also been diagnosed with hypertension and Bell’s Palsy, which had damaged her facial nerves and caused facial drooping as a result.

Michael Kors Buys Jimmy Choo

Michael Kors, once the leader of American fashion retail, has suffered a downturn in recent years, with sales dipping 11 percent last quarter. However, the brand has figured out a fresh way to inject its revenue stream with new blood, having just acquired luxury footwear brand Jimmy Choo for $1.2 billion.

Forbes reported that this acquisition will “give Michael Kors a new avenue for international growth and a foothold in the luxury shoe market”. However, Jimmy Choo will still be run by CEO Pierre Denis. The market reacted positively to the news, with Jimmy Choo shares increasing by 17 percent and Michael Kors shares climbing one percent.
