Two New Harry Potter Books
Harry Potter fans the world over rejoiced with the announcement that two new books will drop on October 20th. Unfortunately, they aren’t prequels or sequels penned by J.K. Rowling, but they do extend the Potter canon considerably. Harry Potter — A Journey Through the History of Magic and Harry Potter — A History of Magic offer an exploration of “magical history” as supplied by the British Library.
The effort is part of a collaboration between J.K. Rowling, Bloomsbury, and the famed library, which was given access to manuscripts, sketches, and illustrations from the author’s archives. On her website, Rowling explained that these were to be considered adult companion books to the seven core novels at the center of the Potterverse.
The 'Gucci Bloom' Takeover
Alessandro Michele of Gucci unveiled his first new fragrance for the brand in spectacular fashion, taking over Times Square in New York City to shoot an ad campaign. ‘Gucci Bloom’, represented by brand ambassadors like Dakota Johnson in the shoot, came to life against a backdrop of real blossoms. The name and the backdrop are key ingredients in the very floral-forward perfume, which is blended with tuberose, jasmine, and musk.
From Bad Gal to Good Gal
As one of the celebrity world’s most formidable fashion lovers, Rihanna has been known to rock some extreme looks on the red carpet. However, her appearance at the Valerian premiere took a turn for the twee, and the results were jaw dropping. Clad in a cloud of baby-pink tulle by Giambattista Valli, the singer took an ultra-feminine look and upgraded it to stylish heights by wearing it with attitude – and not a shred of irony. We swooned.
Cara Delevingne's 'Hot Ones' Challenge
Why in the heck are major celebrities like Kevin Hart and James Franco appearing on a YouTube show to scarf down blistering-hot wings? The answer is Hot Ones, one of the Internet’s most popular interview shows due in large part to its unique format.
Pro-interviewer and host Sean Evans challenges celebrities to eat ten spicy wings in ascending order of heat while he asks them penetrating, thoughtful questions. In fact, we’re willing to go on record right now to say that Evans is one of the best interviewers we’ve ever had the pleasure of watching in action. The format is amazing and totally unique because, as the celebrity becomes more and more belabored by pain, all of their barriers and emotional walls are broken down. It reveals a lot about the celebrity – more than they likely intended to share.
For that reason, Hot Ones is, well, hot on the press-junket circuit and celebs like Cara Delevingne are now participating in the challenge for a chance to plug their new projects to the show’s 1 million+ subscribers. You can watch the full episode below, and we highly recommend digging deeper into the show’s archives afterwards because they are filled with hilarious gems.
Lana Del Rey's New Album
Baroque bedroom pop princess Lana Del Rey is back at it again with a new album called Lust for Life. In the album, she pursues familiar themes – such as the alienating nature of celebrity – but there are rays of positivity that occasionally penetrate the clouds. Longtime collaborator A$AP Rocky appears on two tracks, lending his signature languorous rap voice to the project. Our thoughts after a first listen: this one is a definite keeper.
