Making weekend plans these days feels challenging to say the least, particularly if you’re not one to meander around in malls. But for those of you nostalgic for watching films outside during the cooler months, Cinema Akil and Alserkal Avenue have joined forces to make the sweltering heat in Dubai just a little bit more bearable.
Enter: NOWPLAYING, a season of arthouse, independent, repertory, and alternative cinema taking place every night at Warehouse 68 from Friday, July 14th to Saturday, September 30th. The space will be accessible for public use from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.,
July’s calendar has been released, and there’s a diverse array of titles to look forward to – think: In the Last Days of the City (a filmmaker’s struggle to capture the soul of his hometown, Cairo), I Am Not Your Negro (a documentary exploring racism in the USA), and All Eyez on Me (a must-watch Tupac Shakur biopic). Also back by popular demand is the beloved Barakah Meets Barakah, a satirical look at dating in Saudi Arabia. You can find the complete schedule by clicking here.
