What do the likes of Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, and the other Queen – yes, Beyoncé – have in common? They all make Corinthia Hotel London their home in the English capital, which is hardly surprising seeing as this five-star luxury property stands in a league of its own. But you don’t need to be a VIP to feel like one because, here, everyone’s made to feel like a true superstar.
Housed in a grand Victorian building just a stone’s throw away from the River Thames, South Bank, and the hustle and bustle of central London, its opulent design gets you from the outset – think: Parisian-inspired motifs and designs etched into the golden stone walls. Upon entering the huge glass doors, you’ll find yourself in the stunning, sun-drenched lobby – and that’s where the magic starts. Be sure to gaze up the enormous Baccarat chandelier when you walk through the Crystal Moon Lounge. It’s made from a whopping 1,001 crystals, so it’s not surprising to learn that the hotel has won an award just for its lighting.
The property prides itself on preserving many of the building’s original features, from the elaborate ceilings to the columns and window frames, but it has managed to do so whilst creating one of the most sophisticated hotels in the world. Read on to discover why Corinthia Hotel London gets the Savoir Flair seal of approval.
Although the hotel boasts some seriously stunning suites and penthouses (sweeping staircases, rooftop terraces, private lifts, butlers on call for 24 hours, you get the gist), it was the brand new ‘River Suite’ that took our stay up a notch – all 904 square feet of it. The space has been beautifully designed to bring both elegance and comfort to the forefront of your stay, from the spacious and stunning marble bathroom with its heavenly heated floors and huge tropical rain shower to the super king-sized bed that feels like you’re sleeping on a cloud and the cool, contemporary artwork that adorns the walls.
Modern, masculine tones are used throughout, with a palette of creamy beiges, dark woods, and rich blues offset by splashes of lime green. It’s worth noting that no two rooms at the Corinthia are the same. Each has its own unique look and feel, which has one downside: you’ll want to come back and try them all…
Then, there are the giant Loewe plasma TVs (perfect for putting on a movie as you snuggle into your cloud), an in-wall bathroom TV that allows you to sink back, relax, and soak as you catch up on your favorite sitcoms, and a huge lounge. But the ultimate star of this show? That 180-degree view out across the River Thames and London Eye. You can’t put on a price on that.
Everything has been placed just so, from the fresh flowers to the fancy coffee table books and cool little trinkets that add a homely touch. Oh, and the other downside? You won’t want to leave your room. Ever. But we advise you do as there’s so much more good stuff to discover…
If relaxation is what you’re after, ESPA Life is one of the most stunning spas we’ve ever seen. There’s also a state-of-the-art Bodyspace gym, where celebrity trainer David Higgins and his team can whip you into shape – it may be needed if you indulge in the hotel’s legendary high tea. Did we mention the amphitheater sauna, ice fountain, private sleep pods, changing rooms featuring roaring fires, and marble-heated loungers that will send you straight to sleep? It’s like your own private, underground paradise.
Foodies, rejoice – one thing that really sets the Corinthia apart are its dining destinations. For an indulgent afternoon, treat yourself to the Corinthia’s legendary high tea in the aforementioned Crystal Moon Lounge, where the finest finger sandwiches and picture-perfect pastries are served up on hand-painted bone china under the beautiful Baccarat chandelier. When in London, as they say.
For some proper British grub with a fancy twist, be sure to dine at Kerridge’s Bar & Grill. The first London restaurant to open from renowned Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge, it centers around the best British dishes whilst focusing on seasonality, sustainability, and traceability with a strong focus on grilled meats, fresh seafood, and local vegetables.
Take a seat in your sumptuous leather booth and tuck into delicious delights like the rich and cheesy ‘Glazed Omelette Lobster Thermidor’, classic fish and chunky chips with ‘Pease Pudding’, melt-in-the-mouth ‘Treacle Roasted Fillet of Beef’, and ‘Brown Butter Tart’ of dreams.
The Little Touches
The little touches are what really make your stay at the Corinthia so extra special. Things like the 24-hour check-in service means that, whatever your travel plans, you can always arrive to a genuine smile and a pristine hotel room. You can get lost exploring the corridors and floors, where over 250 pieces of commissioned artwork adorns the walls.
The beautiful and fragrant in-house floral boutique offers some of the best blooms in Britain, and simply walking through the hotel’s doors and being greeted by the doormen is enough to put a big smile on your face. And – rest assured – for the entire duration of your stay, that smile isn’t going anywhere.
