The summer season translates to slim pickings for those on a perpetual culture quest, with venues such as Courtyard Playhouse and Dubai Opera keeping us satiated until the return of art fairs, music festivals, and al fresco concerts. But, to the delight of both fashion girls and photography buffs across the city, Sotheby’s Dubai is stepping up.
The Dubai outpost of the famed London-based auction house is gearing up to host a stunning exhibition that opens next week, showcasing portraits by legendary fashion photographer Sir Cecil Beaton. While he managed to build a stellar reputation as a set and costume designer for film and theater, winning Tony Awards for his work on My Fair Lady and Coco, the British photographer remains synonymous for his talent behind the lens.
This will be the first time that Beaton’s work has been shown in the Middle East. A whopping 60 vintage prints from The Cecil Beaton Studio Archive are expected to be on view, depicting everyone from royalty and musicians to artists, fashion icons, and celebrities – think: Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Twiggy, Picasso, and Queen Elizabeth among others. The exhibition will open to the public on May 8th and run until May 27th at Sotheby’s Dubai in DIFC.
