Pets are big business on Instagram with millions of adoring fans, their own lines of merchandise, and even the occasional appearance on TV or in a music video. According to Fast Company, a pet owner is able to leverage their pet’s influence into deals that include high-paying product endorsements and commercial campaigns. However, Insta-famous pets are happy to work for food and attention, oblivious to their legions of followers.
Some pets have become so popular that they are now household names: Grumpy Cat, Tuna, Nala, and Marutaro are as well-known in some circles as the Kardashian klan. But while it’s likely that you’re already following a few of the more famous pets on Instagram, chances are you haven’t been introduced to the adorable accounts awaiting you in the gallery below.
Meet Dada, the long-haired chihuahua who happens to be the cutest thing on four legs. Her enormous eyes and tiny head make her look more like a toy, but according to her account, she loves snuggly naps and chewing on stuffed animals just like any other pup. Be warned: Dada achieves nearly lethal levels of cuteness, so watch your heart while you’re scrolling through her feed – ours nearly burst.
Jiff the Pomeranian is so cute that it’s hard to believe he’s real, but this pup is a hard worker. Not only is he in the Guinness Book of World Records for “the fastest ten-meter run on hind legs” and “the fastest five-meter on front paws”, but he has also appeared in music videos for Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse”, commercials for Target, and a segment on Good Morning America.
Moo, Oli, Taffy, Bowie, and Ellie
The Bunny Mama account is where you’ll find five adorable, spoiled bunnies who live “cage free” with their owners. They are Moo, Oli, Taffy, Bowie, and Ellie, and it’s a toss-up between which one steals the spotlight on a daily basis. We’re partial to the markings of Bowie (pictured), but all five bunnies are so cute and lively that we can’t play favorites.
With over two million followers, Marnie is so famous that she mingles with celebrities like Anderson Cooper and Kelly Ripa! This 15-year-old female Shih Tzu was rescued in 2012 and, in six years, has become one of Instagram’s biggest stars. With an extra-long tongue that she can’t keep in her mouth, Marnie is so beloved that she has her own line of merchandise.
This little squeaker is a chinchilla by the name of Mr. Bagel. If that alone doesn’t send you over the edge, his penchant for pint-sized furniture, tiny shopping carts, and stylish hats will. Not only is he the most photogenic chinchilla we’ve ever seen, but he’s also a strong advocate against animal cruelty and the use of fur in fashion. We’re with you on that, Mr. Bagel.
Nikon, a stunning mixed-breed cat, hails from the Japanese city of Nagoya. You’ll find yourself living for her throwback kitten pictures and the hilarious videos of her acting like the queen of the apartment she lives in. With over 63,300 followers on Instagram, she isn’t the most famous Insta-cat, but undoubtedly one of the most beautiful.
Shadow and Scuba
Scuba, a British Shorthair, is one cat with a larger-than-life personality. With big round cheeks and eyes that look askance, his facial expressions send us into uncontrollable fits of laughter every time he appears on our feed. He shares the account with his sister Shadow, who is also adorable – but Scuba is the crowd favorite if we’re being honest.
Toast is a toothless King Charles puppymill rescue with nearly 400,000 followers on Instagram and boatloads of style. She is a fan of fancy outfits and props, and has lots of other famous puppy friends – like Ella Bean – who make appearances on her account from time to time. Out of all the Insta-famous pets, Toast is the one who most deserves her own fashion ad campaign.
Princess Monster Truck
A super-famous kitty with the even-more-famous underbite is Princess Monster Truck. She has captured the internet’s heart with her hilarious face and huge personality. This hip Brooklyn kitty was rescued from a life on the streets by two artists and is now loved the world over – she even has a superb line of merchandise, including a T-shirt that we actually really want.
Meet Zappa, our favorite style discovery of 2018. Not only does this feline have the most adorable case of RBF, but he also has a knack for pulling off the likes of Off-White and Gucci without looking like a fashion victim. His sartorial sensibilities have already earned him a cult following on the ‘gram, but we’re so ready for his social media popularity to spread to the fashion world IRL.
