Sima El Solh, wedding consultant and founder of popular Instagram account @LebaneseWeddings, knows that good planning is at the core of all successful wedding celebrations. Here, she shares five unexpected tips to help you navigate some of the lesser anticipated elements of your big day, from how long to wear your veil to the importance of being in the right frame of mind.

1

Use Your Head When It Comes to Your Headpiece

“Talk to any woman about her wedding day, and she’ll tell you that her veil was one of the key elements that made her feel transformed from just a women in a white dress into a bride. Therefore, you should consider how long you will wear your veil during your celebration before your big day arrives. There will be temptation to take it off immediately but you may want to keep it on longer than your in-the-moment instinct dictates – this is your one opportunity to wear the sentimental piece of fabric, after all. We’ve also noticed that the brides we’ve worked with prefer the photos of them wearing the veil as opposed to when their hair is showing.”

You Have to Feel Amazing to Look Amazing

“You have the dress of your dreams, and now it’s time to pick your shoes. Yes, you want them to be beautiful, but trust us: comfort is key. You may even want to opt for flats! Plus, nobody will be able to see what you’re wearing under your dress. They will, however, see the smile on your face because you feel great. Therefore, as long as the shoe color matches the shade of your gown, all bets are off when it comes to what shape you decide on.”

3

Make Sure You Eat Breakfast

“Realistically, the day of your wedding will be a blur of nerves. Post-breakfast, you’ll most likely be running around and not have time for proper meals. It’s vital that you set aside enough time for a breakfast that will fill you up and give you plenty of energy for the rest of the day. On top of drinking tons of water the morning of, try protein-rich options that won’t leave you bloated, such as egg whites or Greek yogurt.”

Play It Safe When It Comes to Your Beauty Routine

“As tempting as it may be to get a tan or change your hair color in order to look your best on your wedding day, believe us: just don’t do it. It’s better to be safe than sorry. If you’re thinking about a dramatic beauty change for your wedding, test it out months in advance to make sure you’re really happy with it.”

5

Stay Positive

“A golden wedding rule: expect the unexpected. Whatever situation you encounter, there’s always a solution. Let your wedding planner, close friends, and family members take care of things so that you can enjoy yourself. If you choose to be positive, nothing will be capable of ruining your mood.”
