In this installment of our #InsideD3 series, Savoir Flair brings you an exclusive first look at the new showroom of Nakkash Gallery, one of the leading interior-design firms in the UAE. The family-run business has set itself apart with its unique and eye-catching design pieces that are sourced from across the globe. Its longstanding success can be credited to the collective efforts of founder and interior architect Wajih Nakkash, working alongside his son Omar Nakkash (interior designer and Business Development Manager) and daughter Aya Nakkash (Marketing Manager).
In conversation with Savoir Flair, Wajih Nakkash talks through the rich history and exciting future of the Nakkash Gallery brand, with plenty of interiors inspiration to be found in the gallery below.
Tell us about the history of Nakkash Gallery.
Nakkash Gallery began as a small interiors business based in Sharjah until our first flagship gallery opened in Garhoud in 1993. This growth saw Nakkash Gallery become a haven for iconic furniture and limited-edition pieces sourced from all around the world.
Fast forward to 2014 when we opened our second outlet in the heart of Dubai, right off Sheikh Zayed Road. The concept here goes beyond furniture display; the idea is to provide indoor living spaces and a sense of ambiance to our clients. This showroom showcases a diverse array of contemporary and modern styles. And while it is divided by brand, we tastefully pair together furniture that embodies the ambiance of each space.

The company also grew when my children Aya and Omar joined the family business. It makes me proud to know that they have chosen to follow in my footsteps. They grew up with the brand and understand it more than anyone else. By working alongside the team here, Aya and Omar breathe new life and new ideas into our work. My children and I have a shared vision, and I have no doubt that they will maintain the heritage and take the family business to higher levels.
This year has been off to a great start as we relocated our flagship office and showroom from Garhoud to Dubai Design District. We are very excited and happy to be part of the design community as it becomes the regional hub for all things design and style. We also added a new dimension to the business by launching an online gift service, which offers a gifting experience that is both unique and convenient. The idea is that, regardless of someone’s schedule, they’ll be able to select and purchase a meticulously curated item online and have it delivered to their home or to the address of the recipient.
How are pieces chosen for the showroom?
Nakkash Gallery’s team goes on several buying trips throughout the year to scout for new talent and fill the store with exciting new collections. The team keeps an eye out for young, upcoming designers and aims to promote their work in the region. Maison & Objet in Paris, High Point Market in North Carolina, and Salone del Mobile in Milan are among the major events attended.
The concept is the first of its kind and aims to bring together Dubai’s most talented interior designers as well as leaders in the worlds of art, style, and architecture to elevate the standard of design in the UAE.
Nakkash Gallery hosts interesting initiatives such as ‘Dine with Design’. Can you tell us more about the idea behind this?
‘Dine with Design’ is an initiative that we started back in 2014. The concept is the first of its kind and aims to bring together Dubai’s most talented interior designers as well as leaders in the worlds of art, style, and architecture to elevate the standard of design in the UAE. Guests are invited to a private dinner in the heart of the showroom and surrounded by the latest collections as per the theme set. These themes are based on the most cutting-edge design pieces of the season. We hope to expand upon this concept and host more ‘Dine with Design’ events around the region, offering new themes to various movers and shakers in the fields of art, style, design, and interiors.
We will also be kicking off the design season in October with another event in our newest location in d3. In addition to this, and with Dubai Design Week coming up, we are happy to announce that Nakkash Gallery will be participating by presenting an entirely new way of seeing and experiencing the outdoors. The display is titled Nakkash Gallery Reinvents Outdoor Living and will feature an outdoor journey through an innovative, open-air installation.
Why did you decide to open a space in d3?
As a family-run business, it was a joint decision. Omar, however, was the main reason that we made the move. After long discussions at the office and over the dinner table, he finally convinced us that we had to relocate our head office and showroom to d3. We chose d3 because of its significant commitment to creating a hub and integrated ecosystem for the region’s design industry. By becoming a part of this community, Nakkash Gallery brings with it over 30 years of interior-design experience and luxury living that will foster the district’s creative talents.
Now that we are in d3, we are looking to take things to the next level, displaying items that are more cutting edge. We want to blur the lines between art and design to offer a complete lifestyle. The 7,000-square-foot space features indoor and outdoor sections and is home to the Nakkash Gallery interior-design consulting service.
Since our inception in 1983, we never imagined that the growth of the design community in the UAE would flourish as it has, especially during the past ten years. The Dubai Design District is a place where creative talents work together in harmony to elevate the standard of design in the region.
