When Choosing the Venue

“When choosing your wedding venue, you must consider a few critical elements – the location, capacity, restrictions, and parking space to name a few. Be aware that some venues work with selective suppliers, from florists to caterers, so ensure each element is right for you before signing on the dotted line. Lastly, don’t forget to reserve your wedding venue early (at least one year in advance) as places tend to book up quickly.”

When Composing Your Guest List

“There are two major things you need to consider when preparing your guest list: the venue capacity and your budget per person. What’s critical here is to chase those who haven’t RSVP’d early. This will give you enough time to pull from your plan B list if people from your A list can’t make it – it sounds harsh, but it’s true. Additional considerations for the guest list should include whether guests will be offered a plus one and whether or not children will be invited.”

When Buying Your Dress

“Aah, the dress. A word to the wise: Try on every single dress style, even if you have a specific type in mind. The Instagram screenshots of wedding gowns that you have saved on your phone make for great inspiration, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will look the same on you. The first thing you need to do is decide which body parts you would like to embrace and which you’d prefer to cover up – this will help you find a design that best suits you and allows you to feel comfortable on your wedding day. Throughout this process, it can also be helpful to bring a family member or close friend whose opinion you really trust.”

When Deciding on Your Beauty Look

“There are two key words when it comes to this part of your wedding: trial sessions. The best part about bridal hair and makeup is that you can book a trial session ahead of your wedding day, allowing you to see the full look and have time to adjust as needed. When choosing how you want to look on your big day, your dress should be the initial inspiration behind the makeup and hairstyle. Is it romantic? Modern? If you’ve decided to wear a headpiece or veil, make sure to bring those to the trial session to see how everything fits together. Lastly, inquire about the cost of having your hairdresser and makeup artist on standby on your wedding day in case something needs fixing. Some brides opt to have two different looks, one for the entrance of their wedding and another for the afterparty. The sky really is the limit.”

When Picking a Photographer

“Let’s talk photos. The day after your wedding, all you will have left are photos to remember the most incredible moments of your big day – and just how sore your feet felt, of course. Therefore, when picking a photography team, make sure they get to know who you are and what you like. Don’t be afraid to tell them what and whom to focus on as well as all the elements that you’d like captured. For example, do you love detail shots? Is there a specific person you want to make sure you’re photographed with? Don’t be afraid to pull reference photos as well.”
