A resident of Bahrain for over eight years, food blogger @TheFlavourPursuit has hunted down the best of the island’s eateries, from healthy smoothie spots to Parisian-style bistros. Read on for her top picks, below.

1

Café Lilou

One of Bahrain’s most popular cafes, Café Lilou features French-inspired décor, a bustling atmosphere, and desserts to die for. With healthy options, the recently launched breakfast menu is a welcome change, but there are still plenty of pancakes and waffles on offer for those with a sweet tooth.

What to order: Avocado toast with poached eggs and a ‘Marin Calin’ smoothie.

La Ventana

This hidden gem was one of the first cafes to open in Adliya and is famous for its legendary salads. You’ll love the homey feel at La Ventana, courtesy of its cozy atmosphere and friendly owner. Just don’t be daunted by the huge (and handwritten) menu – the salads, quiches, and baked potatoes are all winners!

What to order: Goat-cheese salad and a slice of cake from the dessert counter.

Lumee

This is Bahraini food with a twist – and what a delicious twist it is! With its street-style vibe and unique take on local dishes, Lumee has become a fast favorite on the island. The Bahraini breakfasts, healthy lunches, and unusual cakes are popular, but make sure you don’t leave without giving the za’atar hummus a try.

What to order: Combo salad platter and a side of za’atar hummus.
