However, the most recent addition to the city’s hotel scene, the Rove Downtown Dubai, has carved out its own niche by pairing a grown-up hipster experience with – dare we say it – reasonable rates. The concept, a joint venture between Emaar Properties and Meraas Holding, is a Dubai born-and-bred lifestyle brand that’s planning to expand rapidly throughout the region. Rove Downtown Dubai features art pieces created by locally based artists and designers, including Alia Al Shamsi, Dina Sami, Khalid Mezaina, Lama Khatib Daniel, Mariam Abbas, Nasser Alzayani, and Stephen Chambers. This theme will continue across all the upcoming properties.

Reflected in its décor, the art and design inspiration for the hotel was drawn from surrounding areas such as Downtown Dubai and Zabeel, amongst others.

A series of ten Rove hotels will be built by 2020. In addition to Rove Downtown Dubai, which opened in May 2016, six more locations have already been announced – Wasl, Port Saeed, Al Jafiliya, Oud Metha, Dubai Marina, and Satwa.

The hotel restaurant, The Daily Downtown Dubai, offers Arabic, Western, Indian, and Southeast Asian cuisine, including Chef Spencer Lee Black’s favorites such as shakshouka, sticky toffee pudding, and cheeseburgers.
