I owe Alexander Wang a debt of gratitude for introducing me to Lady Leshurr, who is now my favorite female hip-hop artist ever. When her track Queen’s Speech 3 was used as the soundtrack for Wang’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection, I was so enthralled with the song that I almost forgot to look at the clothes on the runway. While Michel Gaubert is the fashion industry’s curatorial gold standard, Wang has always had an ear for good music and has introduced the fashion world to acts like K-Pop star G-Dragon and DonMonique at both his runway shows and his epic after-parties.
Apple Music has recently made strides in incorporating fashion’s perspective on music by tapping Burberry and Made to Measure for the streaming service’s fashion curator program, and the newest addition to the line-up is Alexander Wang. Apple Music’s program now includes three playlists by Wang called ‘Chill’, ‘Vibe’, and ‘Hype’. I couldn’t imagine the cost of actually hiring Wang to DJ a party, but his stellar playlists cut out the middle man and bring you straight to the source.
