Just one glance at VOL.1’s Instagram handle and you’ll quickly be able to tell that this isn’t your average coffee establishment. From the sophisticated marbled interiors to the bacon truffles, salted caramel popcorn ice cream with a shot of specialty espresso, velvety cappuccinos, and cup after cup of freshly brewed Panama coffee on offer, this caffeine den has quickly become one of Kuwait’s most beloved independent coffee shops.
With a vision to “provide specialty coffee that is coherent to the standards of the specialty coffee associations and applauded by coffee enthusiasts everywhere” and to create a platform “that develops the appreciation, skill, and creativity of the art form,” this establishment is part of an exciting movement that is seeing the rise of homegrown, independent food and beverage outlets in Kuwait (we’re also big fans of this homegrown pizza concept in Kuwait City). VOL.1 is the latest must-try spot in a lineup of specialty coffee shops opening up across the GCC (think: Tom & Serg, Rider Cafe, The Brass Coffee & Community in Dubai, and Papercup in Beirut) with a new and unprecedented emphasis on flavor and quality of coffee taking center stage and rapidly replacing the major coffee chains that had previously captivated consumers’ interest.
