If you’re looking for real, authentic Italian pizza, this tiny shop tucked away in Kuwait City offers an unexpected slice of Napoli. According to Kuwaiti owner and pizza maker Amr AlRefai, his shop Solo Pizza Napulitana is “the first pizzeria in Kuwait to be awarded the seal of authenticity by the Association of True Neapolitan Pizza, Vera Pizza Napoletana, becoming the 353rd member in the world.” AlRefai, who studied in Naples to master the traditional Napoli pizza code of values, which includes making simple but honest pizzas, creates fluffy handmade dough and uses only the freshest ingredients, such as San Marzano tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, at his pizzeria in Kuwait.
Inside the shop, you’ll find all the markings of a quaint Italian eatery, including a live wood-fire oven, which was built by fourth-generation Neapolitans and shipped all the way over from Napoli to Kuwait. This allows diners to watch as their pizza, whether it’s a Mozzarella di Bufala or a tartufo creation, gets whipped up right in front of their eyes.
