Anything can inspire your wedding cake – from a childhood memory to a favorite flower to a trending topic. If you’re looking for something slightly out of the ordinary and avant-garde for your upcoming nuptials, take a cue from baker Rachael Teufel of Intricate Icings in Denver, Colorado and opt for a boundary-pushing wedding cake with a geode design. According to Teufel, the cake was inspired by “actual geodes, a beautiful illustration, and a variety of table decor items like plates, chargers, and geometric floral arrangements.” She explains, “I knew I wanted to create a show-stopping cake and use the geode as the focal point, creating an awe-inspiring visual experience for the guests.”
The design, which is made completely from edible sugar and fondant set on top of a chocolate modeling, has created quite the stir in the bride-to-be community, with Teufel’s video of the geode wedding design drawing millions of views to date. According to the baker, the cake took 16 hours to create and retails for $2,000. Although Intricate Icings only delivers to the Denver area, Savoir Flair predicts you’ll soon be able to get your hands on this design in the GCC as it becomes one of 2016’s most in-demand wedding cakes.
