From the 16th to the 19th of March, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s private photos will be featured in a “temporary museum” exhibition in Dubai Design District entitled ‘Dubai Photo Exhibition’.
The photos, which are exhibited for the first time ever, will offer insight into what life was like during the time of the Trucial States in the 1960s and post-Union in the 1970s when the UAE was officially formed. The exhibition not only exemplifies His Highness’ strong passion for photography, but it also offers rare visual insight into the traditions and values of that time. For example, the image above captures a branch of the Al-Awamir tribe that lived near the city of Al-Ain in the 1960s and demonstrates how, after a woman delivered a baby, she would use cosmetics on the child as an expression of joy, such as eye liner. Another photo shows the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum speaking to a journalist.
The exhibition has been organized by the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award. Click here for more information.
