With its white-washed brick walls and airy seaside atmosphere, The Maine Oyster Bar & Grill at The DoubleTree by Hilton is the place to be right now. The restaurant, which is at the end of JBR, is tucked away within the parking garage of the hotel and requires some determination to discover, but, once inside, you’ll be taken by the restaurant’s high-gloss touches, comfortable seating, and marble-topped bar, which create a relaxed and welcoming ambiance reminiscent of a boisterous New England hangout.
At The Maine, you’ll find fresh seafood galore, including freshly chucked oysters, chargrilled sea bass with lemon and olive oil, and jerk king crab with tarragon and garlic butter. The eatery also offers seafood towers for sharing, such as ‘Neptune’s Folly’, which features snow crab legs, prawns, oysters, and scallop ceviche (AED 800 to share).
The Maine’s sweet spot is that, alongside its seafood options, it offers a medley of continental dishes – think: caesar salad with baby gem lettuce, baked kale chips, and garlic croutons, as well as rib eye with a side of tomato and blue cheese crumble – providing just the casual restaurant food that you didn’t know you wanted until you sat down to try it.
“Growing up in Dubai since the 1970s, I have been fortunate enough to travel and experience some incredible culinary concepts from around the world. I always felt that this style of restaurant was sorely missing in Dubai and would perfectly suit the city’s more relaxed diners in search of something simple, accessible, and delicious,” Founder and Managing Partner Joey Ghazal explains.
The big-ticket feature of the space is the terrace, which, during my visit, was draped with strings of fairy lights, creating a charming environment perfect for unwinding after a long day at work or for celebrating a special occasion.
