Each month, The Scene Club, a Dubai-based film club, showcases the latest and greatest in independent movies from around the globe. Started in 2007 by Emirati filmmaker Nayla Al Khaja, the club describes itself as a “platform to celebrate and discuss independent productions”. In addition to the bi-monthly screenings, which take place in Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Centre, the events often feature appearances by the film director and producer themselves, who host Q&A sessions post-screening. Additionally, guests can enjoy networking sessions which promote the opportunity to rub shoulders with fellow film buffs. All screenings are free, however registration is absolutely mandatory.
Tomorrow, The Scene Club will screen the UAE premiere of The Final Lesson, directed by Pascale Pouzadoux and starring Sandrine Bonnaire and Marthe Villalonga. The film, which is based on the 2004 novel by Noëlle Châtelet, is French with English subtitles, and follows 92-year-old Madeleine as she teaches her children life lessons in the last moments of her life.
Whether it’s for the free film, the free freshly popped popcorn served at the screening, or the freedom to connect with film enthusiasts, a visit to tomorrow’s screening guarantees to be a fulfilling and unique way to spend a Wednesday evening in Dubai.
