For Palestinian womenswear designer Faissal El-Malak, the XVA Art Hotel is an obvious cultural escape from the bustling Dubai emirate. “My favorite hotel is the XVA Art Hotel in the Al Fahidi neighborhood. An alternative to the Dubai metropolis, this hotel is set within three renovated traditional homes in the heart of Old Dubai. The décor is eclectic, yet very telling of the history and current status of Dubai as a regional hub for trade. As such, it features beautiful textiles, rugs, and art. With a lovely café in the patio and one of Dubai’s first art galleries that showcases interesting regional and international artists, it’s always on my list when friends visit from abroad,” El-Malak shairs with Savoir Flair.
Since 2003, the XVA Art Hotel has highlighted the unique architectural offerings of the region. Case in point? The traditional courtyard, which the 14-room boutique hotel is designed around. Within the courtyard, guests can enjoy a range of Middle Eastern culinary options and refreshing mocktails and coffee. Also on the property is a concept boutique that sells unique gift items, which range from bespoke interiors pieces to one-of-a-kind jewelry and art from around the Middle East.
Also unique to this artsy haven is an outdoor movie screening. As there are no TVs in the guest rooms, classic movies are screened every night for guests to enjoy.
