While Netflix has technically launched in the UAE, it currently only features about 25 percent of the shows available in the US Netflix library. The good news? There are still over 170 series to choose from.
Here, Savoir Flair rounds up the top five series to watch, from comedies to dramas to mockumentaries.
1. Master of None
The brainchild of funnyman Aziz Ansari, this comedic series follows a 30-year-old actor as he navigates through New York City. To give you a feel for what to expect from the show: Ansari plays the main character, Dev Shah, a commercial actor best known for his work in a Go-Gurt commercial – and hilarity ensues.
On the darker side of the Netflix series coin is Narcos, which follows Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar’s infamous rise and eventual fall. Escobar’s tactics were both violent and ruthless, so prepare for some tense can’t-turn-your-eyes-away moments.
3. Grace and Frankie
Jane Fonda, Martin Sheen, and Brooklyn Decker are only a few of the major names to star in this comedy-drama series. Fonda plays Grace Hanson, a retired cosmetics mogul whose life gets turned upside down – and right side up – like only a TV sitcom can promise.
4. Making a Murderer
It’s unlikely that you haven’t yet heard of Making a Murderer. This dark, ten-part documentary, which was filmed over the last ten years, follows a convicted felon’s arrest, prosecution, conviction, and ensuing release. It’s perfect for fans of the popular podcast Serial.
5. Life’s Too Short
Anything written and directed by Ricky Gervais is almost guaranteed to make you laugh or cry – or at least react. This series follows Warwick Davis, a dwarf actor who is trying to make it in show business. Gervais, Johnny Depp, and Steve Carell all make cameos in the series.
