If you’re reading this, Kim Kardashian, you might want to cover your eyes. It’s official: Contouring is dead. That doesn’t mean that defining your features and chiseling your cheekbones is a thing of the past, but it means that the way you do it is about to get a makeover. Literally. Forget the extreme contouring made popular by Kim K and her ‘klan’, which is now being taken to extremes all over social media as women paint themselves like clowns in a bid to completely change their face. Come on ladies – ever heard the expression “natural beauty”?
Speaking exclusively to Savoir Flair, MAC’s Middle Eastern Senior Makeup Artist Vimi Joshi reveals the latest buzzword in beauty: strobing. “Contouring has now become very dated. It’s a trend that’s been taken to the extreme. It also makes you look tougher and older, whereas strobing or highlighting is all about illuminating the skin. This makes you look so much younger, fresher, and more radiant. It is generally done on the high planes of the cheekbones and is definitely the new modern beauty statement.” At Fall/Winter 2015 shows, including Balmain, Thakoon, and Jonathan Saunders, models stunned thanks to the strobing techniques used by makeup artist who focused solely on light-reflecting products to define faces and to create radiant, healthy skin.
