What is almost every single celebrity carrying when she’s snapped and papped about town? No, it’s not the latest “It” bag or pocket-sized pooch – it’s a juice. Gripping onto their green vials of goodness no matter where they are, stars like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jessica Alba are seen sipping juices all the time.
The good news is you don’t have to jet over to LA to get your hands on one of these health-boosting beverages, because Dubai has just welcomed Wild & The Moon to its shores – a brand new concept offering organic, cold-pressed juices. If you’re wondering what “cold-pressed” means, it refers to extracting juice from fruits and vegetables without exposing them to heat, which depletes them of enzymes, vitamins, proteins, and minerals. Instead, they are delicately pressed to extract all the goodness from them, helping the body digest the nutrients more effectively.
Supporting local farmers and growers and using only seasonal, organic produce wherever possible, these juices are the ultimate way to put some goodness back in your body (especially if you’ve had a rather indulgent summer) and to kick-start a new, healthy routine. Wild & The Moon offers one-, three-, five-, and seven-day cleanse programs, ranging from the ‘Classic Detox’ to the ‘Nursing Mothers Program’. I opted for ‘The Fresh Start’ – a three-day program to clean out my system and boost my energy levels, perfect after returning from my summer vacation. Each morning, I woke up to a delivery of five fresh juices and two ‘elixirs’ (a blend of lemon, cayenne pepper, ginger, maca, fresh mint, and water that you can drink whenever you miss the caffeine hit of your daily coffee break) in place of my usual meals. It may sound like a daunting task, surviving on only juice, but they’re each 500ml and packed with the essential nutrients your body needs. You can also drink as much water and herbal tea as you like and, if you really can’t kick your caffeine habit, one black coffee a day is okay.
Throughout the three days, I was alert, energized, and, surprisingly, I didn’t miss food. Those are four words I never thought I’d say.
Easily labeled so you know roughly what time you should be knocking them back, the juices also come with a menu, so you know exactly what you’re drinking and why. Examples include the ‘Late Morning Juice’ to strengthen the gallbladder and liver, provide powerful anti-oxidants, and regenerate immune cells whilst helping you have a healthy heart (made with beetroot, beet greens, fennel, and orange), the ‘Evening Juice’ to act as a sponge and rid the body of poisons and toxins whilst calmly cleansing (made with sprouted almonds, dates, charcoal, vanilla, sea salt, and water), and the ‘Noon Juice’ to assist with digestive enzymes, break down fat, boost your mood, provide vitamins B2 and B6, and hydrate (made with pineapple cucumber, spinach, kale, and lemon). Incredibly filling, fresh, and surprisingly tasty, they made it easy to see why celebrities are addicted to getting their juice fix.
I won’t lie – the first day was tough. I become the person who stares at everyone eating their lunch. I whipped my head around every time I heard someone open their packet of snacks. I even turned someone’s name to ‘Nutella’ when telling a story. It was clear what was on my mind, but that evening I found that I was bursting with energy and went for a long evening walk (moderate exercise is encouraged if you’re feeling up to it) before having one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had in a very long time. Throughout the three days, I was alert, energized, and, surprisingly, I didn’t miss food. Those are four words I never thought I’d say.
