There’s no denying that the cat-eye flick is one of the most iconic beauty looks of all time and, year after year, season after season, it continues to line the lids of women around the world. From Cleopatra, Old Hollywood heroines, like Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn, and modern-day muses, like Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, and of course Adele, to the SS16 runways at shows including Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, Jeremy Scott, and Creatures of the Wind, it’s a look that has stood the test of time and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Savoir Flair turned to MAC’s Middle East Senior Makeup Artist, Vimi Joshi, for her expert tips on how to create the perfect feline flick. “The cat-eye is such an iconic look, because it elongates the eyes, making them appear bigger and longer. Women have always had a fixation with “feline” features and how they exude a look of seduction,” Joshi explains.
“It’s an iconic beauty statement and, whilst trends come and go, the classics always stand the test of time. The cat-eye provides an instant lift to the eyes, which every woman wants! It’s also a look that has defined Eastern eyes for centuries,” she adds.

“Start by looking in the mirror so that you can see your eye shape straight on. Taking the ‘266 Small Angle Brush’ and the ‘MAC Black Track Fluid Line’, draw a line on the outer corners of the eyes where you would like the “flick” to be. Ensure both lines are even and balanced as one of the most important challenges women have in creating a cat-eye is creating an even flick. This technique will save you loads of time.”
