Not only does American actress and model Olivia Wilde have a minimalist approach to beauty, but she also has an easy, breezy personality to match. The face of Revlon, who gave birth to son Otis earlier this year, shares how pregnancy changed her approach to health and fitness in the interview below, and reveals the best beauty tricks she’s learned from industry insiders.
How would you describe your beauty look?
Effortless and simple.
What does your typical skincare/makeup routine look like?
I always cleanse my face and apply moisturizer as soon as I get up. I use Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream, which Gucci Westman introduced me to. And then I put on Revlon BB Cream; I use that every day and I love it. Then it’s pretty simple: I put on some mascara – Revlon has this really bold black one called Lash Potion Mascara that is really great – and add a nude lip. I also fill in my eyebrows.
Did this change with pregnancy? Do you find yourself needing to take care of yourself differently now?
I really, really try to stay away from processed foods as much as I can. I try to cook as much as I can, so I know what’s going into my body. I also use organic products that are free of GMOs where I can.
What are your first memories of makeup?
I used to watch my mom do her makeup when I was growing up.
Have you had any amazing beauty tips passed down to you?
Gucci Westman taught me the importance of really prepping your skin before putting on your makeup, and it’s really changed the way I do my makeup.
What’s the one item you don’t leave home without?
I usually have an eyebrow pencil with me, because I am maniacal about my eyebrows. I have horrible brows, so I always feel more put together after filling them in a little.
What’s your favorite trick that you’ve picked up from the pros?
Dampening the Beauty Blender before applying foundation – it really changes how it goes onto your skin. It makes the blending much easier, and the sponge doesn’t soak up all the foundation, so you use much less of it!
How do you stay in shape?
I don’t like the gym. I do enjoy classes though, like dance and SoulCycle. I think they’re very therapeutic in a way. I also discovered Pilates, and I love it; I think it’s so effective and it helps with aches and pains. It’s a good way to get those long, lean muscles.
