Earlier this year, Gen Z declared people who do the following — wear skinny jeans, use the laughing-crying emoji, and part their hair to the side — as “old” and “uncool.” While we are totally on board with ditching the uncomfortable skinny jeans, when it comes to declaring a hairstyle “dead,” we don’t quite agree with the TikTok teens.

Trends are cyclic, and while a particular trend might seem irrelevant at the given moment, it’s only a matter of time before it makes a comeback. We said it then, and we’ll say it again, the heated “side part vs. middle part” argument holds no real ground. It is virtually impossible to stick to a single hair parting, as you might need to move your locks around depending on the hairstyle. The recent case in point? The side-fringe pony.

Celebrities like Dua LipaAriana Grande, and Madelyn Cline have already given the side fringe ponytail a nod of their approval, further crumbling Gen Z’s argument about side-partitioned hair being passé. Celebrities have not only put the “side part vs. middle part” debate to rest, but have also given us an easy fix for our bad hair days. Whether you want to play with your look or hide unwashed greasy locks, the humble ponytail can always be counted on. The side-fringe ponytail, in particular, is super easy to achieve. Comb your bangs to one side of your face, secure the rest of your mane in a high ponytail, et voila
