Another day, another celebrity beauty launch. Yes, we know you know the drill by now, but this one is rather different and is a far cry from your usual sickly-sweet celeb scents or (yet another) matte lip kit. This time it’s from the man whose ageless face has had the world speculating over his skincare routine for decades. A guy who literally looks the same now as he did 30 years ago. Yes, we’re talking about Pharrell Williams. He’s 47 now, FYI. FORTY-SEVEN. We’ll just let that sink in for a minute…
Despite being asked if he’s a vampire and being the subject of countless “seriously, does this guy even age?” memes, Williams has always remained pretty tight-lipped when it comes to revealing his secret to apparently stopping time in its tracks. “I’m willing to go on record as saying that I don’t drink people’s blood. How do I stay so young-looking for a 40-year-old? I wash my face”, he told Time Out London seven years ago. Aside from that — and admitting in 2017 that he exfoliates “like a mad man” — he’s played his skincare cards very close to his chest. Until now, that is.
Adding to his endless resumé (singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer, fashion designer, entrepreneur…) Williams has now revealed the launch of his new genderless, vegan, fragrance-free skincare line, Humanrace.
As its name suggests, it’s created for all humans without borders or labels. “Humanrace Skincare doesn’t differentiate by race or gender. We’re creating for humans; we are all born in the same skin”, Williams announced. Each product is made with 50 percent post-consumer recycled landfill plastic, and in a bid to reduce single-use plastic, has refillable components too.
Created in partnership with his personal dermatologist of 20 years, Dr. Elena Jones, Humanrace will launch with three core products (with a heavy focus on exfoliation, of course), dubbed by Williams as “The Three-Minute Facial”. There’s a foaming ‘Rice Powder Cleanser’ formulated with micronized rice powder exfoliating fruit AHAs, a ‘Lotus Enzyme Exfoliator’ with glycolic acid to exfoliate and regenerate skin, and a ‘Humidifying Cream’ made with mushroom extract and squalene to mimic the hydrating effects of humidity – something Pharrell credits for his youthful complexion.
