Paris Fashion Week may have looked a little different this season, but backstage at Dior, it was business as usual. Armed with his transformative tools and key product picks, Peter Philips, Dior Makeup’s Creative & Image Director, created the ultimate makeup look to complement Maria Grazia Chiuri’s comfort-focused collection.
Inspired by the stunning setting – a vast black tent transformed into a cathedral in the middle of the Jardin des Tuileries (complete with stained glass and an all-female chamber choir soundtrack), Philips created a gothic-glam look that focused on lots of liner and defined black eyes. “I wanted to focus on the eyes and emphasize them powerfully by framing them with very dense, matte black liner”, he tells Savoir Flair.

“To draw attention to the eyes, I used the ‘5 Couleurs Couture 649 Nude Dress Palette’ to subtly shade the upper eyelid. Then, to create a strong graphic look, I traced an emphatic line of eyeliner along the upper and lower lash lines, using ‘Diorshow 24H Stylo 091 Matte Black’, but without stretching it at the corner of the eye. The line is balanced, neither thin nor thick, but it literally frames the eyes by intensifying them and by “dramatizing” them,” Philips explains.
“Next, I reinforced the look further by coating the lashes in ‘Diorshow Iconic Overcurl 090 Black Mascara’. Then I worked on the eyebrows with a light touch of ‘Diorshow Brow Styler’ and ‘Diorshow Pump ’N’ Brow’, so that they looked natural while adding structure to the eyes.”
Philips describes “a luminous and natural complexion that requires perfectly prepped and hydrated skin with a routine of ‘Capture Totale C.E.L.L Energy Super Potent Serum’ followed by ‘Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy Firming and Wrinkle-Correcting Crème’. Then I applied ‘Dior Backstage Face & Body Primer 001 Universal’, which blurs flaws and ensures perfect wear for the ‘Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation’, with shades chosen to match each skin tone. Lastly, I used ‘Dior Forever Skin Correct’ for subtle touch-ups”.
“The lips looked very natural. They were smoothed with ‘Dior Lip Sugar Scrub 001 Pink’ and then hydrated and heightened using ‘Dior Lip Maximizer 001 Pink’, with the shine blotted,” Philips reveals.
