Rebellious face-framing highlights, dubbed ‘Rogue blonde’, have made a stylish comeback. The hair bleaching trend comes just as our brave quarantine dye jobs are bleeding out – offering much-needed contrast from quirky citrus shades. The 2020 version of the two-toned look gets its name from the fierce X-Men superheroine Rogue, whose signature look is a dashing bleached-front hairstyle.
The popularity of the trend can be credited to Beyoncé, who experimented with the bleached-front look last year. Dua Lipa, however, really set the ball rolling as she walked the Grammys’ red carpet flaunting a striking contrast-dye job. The pop princess – known for her daring beauty looks – wore her hair in a top knot, with bleached bangs pulled to the front. Fast forward to a few months later, Kylie Jenner – who is famous for her wigs – (naturally) had her take on the sassy trend. Instead of bleaching, Jenner dipped the front portion of her hair in a slightly lighter shade than her tresses.
Fast forward a few months, and our Instagram feed is crowded with bleached fringes peeking out of dark tresses. The best part, though? The Rogue blonde hair trend allows dark-haired people to experiment with blonde chunks without committing. The eye-catching look promises low risk and high returns in terms of style.
