Love it or hate, it, there is no ignoring the fact that TikTok has forever permeated itself into our lives. Even if you aren’t on the app, you’ve no doubt heard one of the songs that first debuted on the app (Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” was a TikTok sensation before Billy Ray Cyrus ever hopped on the track), or seen one of its viral dance challenges.
These days, TikTok is where trends are born. Remember the viral Dalgona coffee recipe or the quarantine pillow challenge? Unsurprisingly, TikTok usage has skyrocketed during the pandemic. According to Sensor Tower, the app was downloaded 315 million times in the first quarter of 2020 alone – the best quarterly performance by any app, ever.
Amidst all the entertaining content, there are also plenty of innovative beauty videos and hacks on Tiktok. When a TikTok rabbit hole landed us on a super easy hairstyling trick, we couldn’t believe we didn’t think of it before. The viral hair curling hack doesn’t involve a fancy curling wand or flat iron. In fact, it doesn’t involve heat at all. According to hairstylists like Justine Marjan and influencer-turned-entrepreneur Negin Mirsalehi, bouncy heatless curls are actually a thing.
The genius curling trick – which we personally tried and tested – uses everything from socks and stockings to bathrobe belts as hair curlers. How to go about it? Simply braid damp hair around your preferred item (socks, dressing robe belts, stockings) and leave it for a couple of hours or even overnight. Unravel your hair after your timer buzzes, et voilà, effortless curls. Even though it sounds silly, the trick actually works — making it a hairstyling game changer.
