Rooney Mara stars in Calvin Klein’s ad campaign for Downtown, the brand’s latest fragrance, and we join the team to see what went on behind the camera.
Set to a soundtrack by Emeli Sandé, the video starts with activity inside a street-corner coffee shop. Moving closer, the bustle inside is revealed to be director David Fincher, Rooney Mara, and the team of makeup artists, hair stylists, and lighting technicians who helped craft the slow-motion, black-and-white commercial for Downtown. Even the behind-the-scenes video has a downtown feel to it.
In the video, Mara takes on the role of a downtown urbanite. She dances in the street with neighborhood kids and rides in a busy subway car while locked in a private world. She gets caught in the rain and takes a car to a public press junket – pausing for a moment to pet a pooch. All of these elements are captured in real time in this behind-the-scenes video, which shows how even the most average situation takes on the gleam of the spectacular with a bit of movie magic.
