You know the term “fake it until you make it”? Well, it applies to how you look, too. In the UAE, we’ve been sheltering at home for the better part of three months, and while a few of us are making excursions to the local beaches now that some restrictions have eased, plenty more of us are choosing to stay put until the worst of the virus passes. If you’ve seen your reflection growing paler in the mirror as a result of staying indoors for so long, you’re not alone.
One way to quickly bring radiance and confidence back to your complexion is with a fake tanner, but most of the experiences you’ve had with faux glows have most likely gone awry. Even professionally applied sprays can come out streaky, or at the very least, have a tendency to dye the tips of your fingers and toes an unpleasant orange hue. While this look may be preferred by the President of the United States, we’re into the more natural look.
When Savoir Flair got wind of the fake tanner that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley swears by, we had to share the news. The brilliance of the James Read ‘Sleep Mask’ is not only in its seamless application process, but also in the fact that it develops overnight. Fall asleep a vampire and awake a golden sun-kissed goddess? Sign us up.
Here’s how it works: First, you need to scrub off the dull top layer of your skin with a good exfoliant. Second, apply the colorless gel all over your body with the provided mitt in a smooth, circular motion. It dries super fast, doesn’t feel sticky, and won’t stain your clothes or bedding while you sleep. It takes eight hours to develop and must not come in contact with water in that time, so unless you’re a sleep-showerer you’ll wake up with a subtle glow.
Subtle is the keyword here. You can apply this product daily to build your tan, if you so desire. There’s a sleep mask for the face as well, but if you want something more gradual, James Read also makes a fantastic tanning face mist that looks completely natural and doesn’t streak. With added rose water, this mist feels so soothing.
A final tip: Hands and feet tend to absorb the product more and can be a dead giveaway that you’re faking it. Add a layer of lotion to your hands and feet before applying the product, especially around your fingernails, toenails, on your heels, and in between your toes.
