British model and actress Lesley Lawson (that’s Twiggy to you and me) was one of the leading style icons of the 60s. Her androgynous physique and boyish pixie cut prompted legions of imitators, but it’s her unique spidery lashes that have stood the test of time. Twiggy accentuated her big, beautiful eyes with generous layers of mascara, giving birth to the “Twiggy lashes” that celebrities such as Yara Shahidi, Emma Roberts, and Lucy Hale are still emulating – except their modern takes on this iconic beauty look feature everything from graphic eyeliner to glitter.

With the return of Twiggy lashes, these simple steps will help you achieve the look yourself. First, line your top lid with a strong black liquid liner, like our favorite one from Hourglass. Next, start with a lash primer to build thickness, and then layer on two coats of the YSL ‘The Shock’ mascara on both upper and lower lashes. Lastly, apply a coat of the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Legendary Lashes’ mascara for an extra spidery look. The secret to Twiggy lashes is increasing the length of your lower lashes so that they’re as long as the upper lashes. You can easily achieve this by gluing the retro-inspired MAC ’33’ separate lashes along your lower lash line.
