It’s safe to say that between last week’s Golden Globes and last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, 2020 is starting off strong when it comes to celebrity beauty. Last night, stars strutted their stuff down the red carpet in Santa Monica, bringing their A-game when it came to all thing’s hair and makeup. From beautiful braids and chic updos to daring cat-eyes and pretty pink hues, these were the only beauty looks that matter.
All hail Lucy Hale, who matched her makeup to her mint-green Miu Miu gown. Proving that green can be chic, she teamed her go-to hue with a creamy nude lip, perfectly groomed brows, and long, luscious lashes. In the words of makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan, it was “mint to be”.
It wasn’t just Zendaya’s hot-pink Tom Ford ensemble in latex that caught our eye – it was her perfect pink makeup look, too. Rocking major Euphoria vibes, she braved a bold look with metallic pink shadow, gorgeously highlighted skin, and waist-length braids. Pass us the pink palettes, please.
Makeup artist Allan Avendaño added a pop of color to Joey King’s look with a combination of different Urban Decay eye pencils. The result? A subtle, smoked-out cat-eye in green, which was given a romantic touch with a hint of blush and natural pink lips.
Two words to describe Lupita Nyong’o? Hair goals. Armed with an array of styling products – including lots of ‘Total Results High Amplify’ hairspray from Matrix – hair guru Vernon François used extensions and gold coils to create the high hairdo of dreams.
Makeup artist Naoko Scintu described this look as “glowing and sparkling”, and we couldn’t agree more. She also answered our prayers and listed all the products she used on Instagram, so if you want to glow à la Florence Pugh, it’s time to invest in Surratt’s ‘Dew Drop Foundation’ and ‘Torche Lumière in D’OR’. You’re welcome.
It was all about the dramatic cat-eye for Olivia Wilde, who opted for a natural complexion and bare lips to really let her eyes do the talking. To ensure her cool-girl edge was on point, her locks were pulled up into a glossy, effortless topknot.
Saoirse Ronan with a bold lip? Yes, it really happened, thanks to Chanel makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua. “Inspired by the hand-embroidered Erdem red and white floral pattern romantic dress, we wanted to create a fun shimmery eye to complement the red tones…we popped the lips with a bright classic red,” she revealed on Instagram.
Bringing her signature JLo glow to the red carpet, Jennifer Lopez teamed long, glossy locks with gold eye makeup and a nude, glossy pout. Her go-to makeup man Scott Barnes used his own range of products to create the look, including his ‘Glowy & Showy Highlighter Palette’ to ensure she retained her Queen of the Glow title.
A simple but striking way to shake up your winged liner? Go for a double flick. Mandy Moore’s dual-liner look has majorly inspired us to flick-out out our top and bottom lash lines – and embrace sleek, low chignons while we’re at it.
Could Kate Beckinsale look any more beautiful? We think not. Bringing ballerina vibes to the red carpet, she looked breathtaking with a shimmery pink eye, flushed cheeks, glossy lips, and perfectly waved hair.
Find us a more beautiful braid than the one we spotted on Rachel Brosnahan, and we’ll eat our hats. No? Thought not. We’re obsessed with this look, from her perfect plait to her striking orange eyes. So much yes.
