In the words of Monty Python, “And now for something completely different.”
Have you ever looked around the beauty realm and felt like there’s no one that represents you? Do you rarely see women who look like you in the pages of magazines? It’s a frustrating, disheartening feeling. We feel that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and true beauty isn’t some static prescription that everyone has to follow. In this week’s installment of Best Beauty Looks, we’re turning to inspiring women who are breaking the beauty mold, who are daring to be themselves, and who are so confidently doing their own thing that we couldn’t help but take notice.
Lizzo
She’s a professional flute player, she has the number one song in the whole world (“Truth Hurts”), and her body positivity is so inspiring that she has won legions of fans, including the likes of Rihanna and Cardi B. We’re talking about Lizzo, of course. For beauty, she favors bold colors, often matching her look to her outfit.
Tsunaina
Tibetan model Tsunaina has drawn the attention of the beauty and fashion industries because of her incredible features, which some compare to a character from Avatar and others to an exotic feline. Tsunaina completely owns her unique beauty and uses her platform and following to pair her looks with art lessons.
Lulu Bonfils
You may recognize Lulu Bonfils from Fenty campaigns, both lingerie and beauty. As one of our all-time favorite curve models, we adore her beautiful freckles, her creamy complexion, her natural brows, and – most of all – her breathtaking confidence.
Rhea Jacobs
This homegrown beauty is genuinely lovely, inside and out. Early on, Rhea Jacobs was tapped to be a Marc Jacobs beauty ambassador, and an unexpected career developed from there. We love her for refusing to use Facetune and allowing her natural skin texture to show in her photos – not to mention, her cool and inventive beauty looks, like this week’s geometric eyeliner.
Tina Kunakey
Tina Kunakey is a model and third culture kid, whose father is Tongolese and mother is Sicilian, and who was raised in Toulouse, France. Her mane of natural hair, strong bone structure, and penchant for vibrant makeup looks always catch our eye – and this week was no exception.
