As temperatures (finally) drop and our summer dresses will soon be swapped for cozy knits, we’re also refreshing a different kind of wardrobe. This season sees the arrival of a plethora of perfumes that will transport you to far-flung places, add a touch of spice to your life, and leave you feeling warm and smelling sublime – just in time for fall. We spent the last few weeks spritzing and sniffing countless new scents, but will be clearing our beauty shelves for these.
'Spice Blend'
Dior
Spice up your life (literally) with Dior’s spicy new scent. A delicious blend of black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon, its oriental notes are guaranteed to warm you right up. As perfumer François Demachy says, “The warm signature of this fragrance is highlighted by a surprising multitude of intertwining spices in dialogue. Like a gust of wind, ‘Spice Blend’ leaves us wondering if it fans the fire or cools it down.” Pass the hot chocolate, please.
‘Twilly d’Hermès Eau Poivrée’
Hermès
Meet ‘Twilly d’Hermès Eau Poivrée’, a new take of the iconic ‘Twilly’ perfume by Hermès. A Christine Nagel creation, it’s a fragrant homage to the peppery spirit of the Hermès woman. “Hermès girls swim happily against the tide, set their own tempo, invent a whole new rhythm. For them, I have imagined a new facet in tribute to their youthful spirit,” she explains. Expect lots of fiery pink peppercorn, fresh rose, and enchanting patchouli.
'Gabrielle Chanel Essence'
Chanel
In 2017, Chanel launched ‘Gabrielle’, which – as you might have guessed from the name – was inspired by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel herself. Fast forward to today, and the new ‘Gabrielle Essence’ reinvention is all about the very essence of Gabrielle, her radiance, and her free spirit. This means the scent has a new vibrant and opulent facet, which in-house perfumer Olivier Polge imagined with jasmine, ylang-ylang, orange blossom, and Grasse tuberose. Floral, voluptuous, and oh-so-chic. Naturally.
'Eau du Soir Dripping Fantasy Eau de Parfum'
Sisley
Okay, so it’s not a new scent technically, but it is a whole new look for Sisley’s ‘Eau Du Soir’ perfume. Its snazzy limited-edition bottle is a work of art, featuring splashes of red and blue hues inspired by 50s art movement ‘Action Painting’. As for that golden sculptured stopper? Stunning. But, of course, it’s what’s inside that counts – and the juice inside this colorful creation won’t disappoint. Think: juicy mandarin, sun-drenched grapefruit, aromatic rose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang alongside warm amber and patchouli. A true fragrant masterpiece.
'Slow Dance'
Byredo
No one forgets their first school disco – the excitement, the nerves, the anticipation. Will someone ask you to dance? Will you meet your Prince Charming? It is exactly these feelings and emotions that Ben Gorham wanted to capture in his new scent ‘Slow Dance’, which is inspired by that “rite-of-passage moment” for both boys and girls. And what better way to conjure these memories than with a mix of masculine and feminine, sweet and bitter notes? Smoky amber, sweet myrrh, creamy labdanum, fresh geranium, indulgent vanilla, and mysterious patchouli come together beautifully in a sensual, raw scent that instantly makes you feel carefree and young at heart.
'Signorina Ribelle'
Salvatore Ferragamo
Coconut milk, vanilla gelato, red pear, and pink pepper – no, this isn’t the recipe for a delicious new dessert, it’s the new ‘Signorina Ribelle’ perfume by Salvatore Ferragamo. The ‘Signorina’ collection is all about celebrating women with different personalities, and this pretty pink bottle is for the young, determined, fierce yet elegant modern woman. At the core of the scent lies a delicate floral heart of frangipani, ylang-ylang, and sambac jasmine, bringing in that classic touch perfectly juxtaposed by its sweet, spicy top notes.
'Heartless Helen'
Penhaligon's
Penhaligon’s is a perfume brand steeped in history. Established in London in 1870, it has been the go-to for high-society types, royalty, and fragrance fanatics ever since. The brand returned to its aristocratic roots with the creation of the ‘Portraits Collection’ – think Downtown Abbey, but with perfumes playing the characters. Each scent tells a story, and the latest lady to join the fragrance fun is ‘Heartless Helen’. Having just returned from safari with ‘Sir Teddy’, there are rumors that she used her scent to seduce him (and others) into getting what she wants. And with notes of mandarin, tuberose, and creamy woods, who can blame them?
'Love Mimosa'
Amouage
The latest edition to Amouage’s ‘Secret Garden Collection’ sees the arrival of this magical mimosa-infused fragrance. Inspired by bold, brave, and beautiful women, it features intriguing facets of the mimosa flower with violet leaves, juicy pear, and sensual ylang-ylang for a delicate but radiant and energic scent designed to mimic the mimosa hills of Tanneron in the South of France. Plus, the sunshine-yellow bottle adorned with a yellow Swarovski crystal is bound to brighten up any vanity table.
'CH Insignia Limited Edition'
Carolina Herrera
Inside this glamorous golden bottle, you’ll find a luxurious new edition to Carolina Herrera’s ‘CH Insignia Collection’. Inspired by Eastern perfumery and precious, exotic ingredients, it’s a decadent blend of oud, patchouli, rose, and bergamot. The only problem? It’s limited-edition, so get moving. Fast.
‘L’Interdit Eau de Toilette’
Givenchy
In 1957, Givenchy released a scent that broke all the rules. Originally intended for Hubert de Givenchy’s dear friend and muse Audrey Hepburn, ‘L’Interdit’ – which means “the forbidden” – was a powerful perfume rich with intoxicating, heady floral notes. As vibrant and free as the original fragrance, the new ‘L’Interdit Eau de Toilette’ is intense and airy, highlighting the unapologetic dark and daring side of every woman. Each spritz lingers on the skin like the tingle of excitement and exhilaration, stirred up by a dark core of pavot flowers that disrupts the original composition.
'Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum Intense'
Guerlain
We’ve been huge fans of ‘Mon Guerlain’ for years, so when we heard that Guerlain was launching a richer, more intense version, we were very excited. Needless to say, it didn’t disappoint. Sensual, sexy, and seriously seductive, it’s a unique and unusual blend of warm vanilla, fresh lavender, and woody sandalwood and patchouli with hints of licorice, rose, and musk. This is one scent guaranteed to turn heads – all you’ll need is a spritz and a LBD.
'Soleil Neige'
Tom Ford
Tom Ford takes us on a trip from Courchevel to Megève with his new Private Blend creation ‘Soleil Neige’, which “mimics the serene shimmer of sun on snow”. The scent opens with bergamot and carrot seed to mirror winter light and the sun’s glacial white reflections, while the floral heart looks to the iridescent sky with blooming notes of rose, ivory, jasmine, and orange flower. The base adds sun-kissed warmth and tenderness with honey undertones of labdanum, creamy vanilla, and musk. We’ll be spraying this both on and off the slopes.
‘Idôle'
Lancôme
Lancôme’s new ‘Idôle’ fragrance is all about one thing and one thing only: girl power. An olfactory celebration of female empowerment, it was made for women by women – three women to be exact. Perfumers Shyamala Maisondieu, Nadège Le Garlantezec, and Adriana Medina were brought together to create the scent, which is made with sustainably sourced ingredients and a rose-petal essence from Turkey made exclusively for the brand. There’s also French rose centifolia, Indian jasmine, pear, and bergamot to make for the ultimate chypre must-have.
