Although the lines between “male” and “female” fragrances have been blurred for a while now, there are some scents that exude manliness – and Dior’s new ‘Sauvage Parfum’ comes to mind. Although the colors are deep and dark and it contains more classically masculine notes – and Johnny Depp fronts the campaign – the new, concentrated interpretation of the original ‘Sauvage’ scent is one that we’ll definitely be stealing for our other halves this season.

Inspired by a crackling fire burning under a midnight-blue night sky, it’s intense, warm, and spicy – but also manages to be fresh and wonderfully wearable. This is all thanks to oriental notes of Sri Lankan sandalwood and frankincense combined perfectly with citrusy bergamot and mandarin. “’Sauvage’ is an open-ended score. Its composition is so complex that you can add original perspectives by crafting it with subtle nuances,” explains Dior’s perfumer François Demachy.
“For this new parfum, I imagined an intense freshness meeting the smoothness of an oriental scent. I kept the powerful soul of ‘Sauvage’ intact by giving it nocturnal accents, an animal attraction, and some rounder facets,” he adds. In a nutshell, it smells like warm, spicy campfire smoke with hints of crispness. Marshmallows at the ready.
