This month, we turn to India, where women have been perfecting their natural beauty rituals for centuries, for beauty inspiration.

There’s no denying it, Indian women are some of the most beautiful women in the world. Great genes may play a role, but they also owe a lot to the natural beauty traditions that have made India a leader in homeopathy. Using basic kitchen staples, Indian women have created some of the strongest natural beauty regimens to keep their skin gorgeous and glowing and their hair thick and beautiful. Here, we take a trip to one of the world’s most beautiful countries and discover what beauty secrets have kept Indian women gorgeous for generations.

1

Amla Oil

Amla oil, also known as gooseberry oil, is one of the most potent sources of vitamin C. Women in India have been applying amla oil to their hair and scalp for hundreds of years to promote stronger, thicker hair and help with hair loss. Apply this oil daily and notice the changes almost immediately.

2

Turmeric

The secret behind turmeric’s powerful acne-fighting properties is its high content of curcumin, which acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory for skin. Applying turmeric to skin will not only keep it clear, but it will also give it a gorgeous glow. To try this at home, mix one tablespoon of turmeric with three tablespoons of milk and add a bit of honey. Apply the mixture to your face for 15 minutes before rinsing. If you have light skin, try using less turmeric as it could leave a yellow residue behind.

3

Saffron

A slightly more expensive spice, saffron is one of the most effective ways to naturally exfoliate and brighten your skin and fight acne. Thanks to its wealth of minerals and vitamins, including copper, potassium, selenium, zinc, and vitamins A and C, saffron not only soothes skin, but it also helps improve skin tone and leads to a more even complexion. Simply add a pinch of saffron to olive oil and gently massage it into your skin.

Coconut Oil

The practice of using coconut oil to achieve healthy hair has been around for centuries. The rich, fatty base of coconuts and the vitamins they contain make for an extremely nourishing ingredient. Using coconut oil on your hair can help improve shine, thickness, texture, and even fight dandruff. Warm some coconut oil in your hands by rubbing them together, then massage it onto your scalp. Leave it in for 30 minutes, then rinse.

5

Castor Oil

Indian women understand the basics of long lashes; they understand that long lashes are healthy lashes. One of the most effective ways to get thick, luscious lashes is to use castor oil, which is rich in fatty acids and ricinoleic acid. Applying castor oil to your lash base twice a day will not only help you get healthier lashes, but it will also encourage new hair growth.

6

Chili

There’s no denying the spiciness of good Indian cuisine, but chili can do more than just add flavor to a meal. In fact, it can increase your metabolism by up to ten times and encourages incredible weight loss. The boost to your metabolism makes chili one of the most effective ways to shed pounds. Simply add a few raw chili slices to your meal every day and enjoy.
